Power Inn Alliance Business and Member of the Year
Additional Awards Presented at Annual Luncheon
Save the Date - 2012 Picnic at the Park

HP Hood, LLC Named "Business of the Year;" Freedlander Picked "Member of the Year"

A near record 170 members and friends of the Power Inn Alliance attended the 18th Annual Awards Lunch on March 15 which saw the awarding of Business of the Year to HP Hood, LLC for their expansion and growing employment at the dairy on Belvedere Ave.  HP Hood, one of the largest fluid milk producers in the country, purchased Crystal Creamery & Butter in 2008 and converted the plant to 100% Extended Shelf Life dairy products.

The most significant of their investments in the Sacramento plant was installation of an aseptic plastic line that can produce 600 bottles per minute, the largest in the West. In addition to leasing some 160,000 sf of warehouse space in the Power Inn area, HP Hood's employment has grown by 140%. They expect to add 30 additional employees by year's end.

Michael Newell, Hood's Director of Business Development and long-time dairy man, accepted the award and thanked The Alliance for assistance on some zoning issues that made the expansion possible. He said his company is proud of their growth in the Power Inn Area and plans to remain here for a long time.

Sally Freedlander of Granite Park Partners was awarded Member of the Year for her untiring effort on the Board, Executive Committee and as Chair of the all-new Picnic at the Park. In presenting the award, Chairman Carl Stein said, "Sally put together a fabulous committee, encouraged directors and local businesses to become sponsors for a great outdoor event that drew raves from all who attended. She even got the weather to cooperate."

Award Lunch Recognizes Outstanding Accomplishments

Several other Annual Awards were presented for leadership and accomplishment. PG&E received the Best Infrastructure Improvement Award for their $1 million relocation of an unsightly distributing pump station to an underground vault on Cucamonga Ave.
Granite Park Partners accepted the Best Environmental Practices Award for installing a 904 kw solar field over their parking lot, generating power and shading cars during the day. A Solar Education Center is being planned soon.

Best New Development Award went to SHRA for the Bow Tie Landscaping project at Power Inn Rd. and the railroad tracks. The Power Inn Alliance, through their beautification contract with Pride Industries, will maintain the landscaping.

And, in a tradition going back five years, Officer Ryan Enkoji of the Sacramento Police Dept. was named this year's Top Cop Award. This award is given to one officer, selected by his or her Sargent, and presented in recognition of all the officers working in the Power Inn Area (where crime was down by 43% last year alone).
