The long-awaited extension of 14th Ave. from Power Inn Rd. to Florin-Perkins Rd. was unanimously approved by the Sacramento City Council. The $9.5 million extension features a complete four-lane street with median, plus bike lanes, curbs, walkways and gutters on both the north and south sides. $3.5 million has been committed by Redevelopment for environmental, design and right-of-way and the $6 million construction will likely come from SACOG.
The extension of the former Vine St. has been a long term project of both the Power Inn Alliance and the Army Depot Redevelopment Advisory Committee. It will lighten the traffic burden on Belvedere plus eliminate the non signaled left turn from Power Inn Rd, scene of several accidents a year.
Pre-construction efforts and design are expected to be completed in early 2014, with construction beginning sometime thereafter and completed in one season, according to DOT Planner Ryan Moore. "It's the environmental reviews that take so much time," he said. "CEQA has been completed, but now we have to deal with NEPA (National Environmental Protection Act) which could take one year to comply. Hopefully, we won't come across any unusual bunny or bug habitats in the process."
The $9 million extension of 14th Ave. from Power Inn Rd. to Florin-Perkins Rd. will be a "Complete Street," featuring four automotive lanes, two bike lanes plus curbs, walks and gutters on both sides.
Alliance Welcomes New
Long-time Power Inn businessman Carl B. Stein assumes chairmanship of the Power Inn Alliance following the resignation of Bob Perrine.
Chairman Carl Stein
Upon the resignation of Alliance Chairman Bob Perrine to take on new responsibilities in Sparks, NV, Vice Chairman Carl Stein assumed the position through 2012.
