Bridging Business and Workforce Development 

 

The Re-Employment Bridge Institute presents the conference "Bridging Business and Workforce Development" on June 7 - 8, 2012. The conference aims to bring together local businesses with workforce development professionals.

 

Opportunities are provided to participants to remain current on innovative initiatives, idea exchange, and networking with colleagues.

CAWDB leaders will present an exciting program it has implemented for businesses involving recent college graduates and internships. There will also be 30 dynamic breakout sessions to attend. For more information, visit www.reemploymentbridge.com. 

 Work in the Triangle Campaign

 

 

 

 

 

 

Wake County Economic Development and other regional partners have begun a talent attraction campaign called "Work in the Triangle." The campaign's goal is to help the Triangle region market and position itself nationally and internationally as one of the top destinations for talented professionals to live and work. An online tool was launched in May that includes videos, testimonials and resource links to attract professionals to the Triangle. New Six Sigma Training Classes

 

 

Wake Technical Community College and CAWDB have partnered together to offer a "Six Sigma Training Class" to job seekers.

The class is led by seasoned industry professionals including staff members from the SAS Institute. The class utilizes the latest software tools at the Western Wake Campus. CAWDB is providing educational grants to job seekers to participate in the class and improve their tool box of skills. The next class begins in May, 2012. CAWDB is pleased to announce the appointment of Joy Woodard to the Board.  Joy is the Director of Career and Technical Education with Johnston County Schools. Encouraging Signs of Economic Recovery

 

The unemployment rate appears to be moving in a more positive direction for both Wake and Johnston County with Wake County seeing a 0.9% decline and Johnston County seeing a 1.1% decline in their unemployment rates since January, 2012. This trend corresponds to statewide and the rest of the United States. Source: NC Division of Employment Security.
 

Caterpillar Partners with Capital Area Workforce Development Board

Caterpillar, Inc. recently partnered with Capital Area Workforce Development Board (CAWDB) and Wake Technical Community College to coordinate a "Career Expo".

Over 500 job seekers throughout the region came to Wake Tech's Western Wake Campus to learn about jobs at Caterpillar's facilities in Cary, Clayton and Sanford, NC.  More.... 

Capital Area Workforce Development Board Holds Annual Board Retreat

During April 2012, CAWDB held its annual strategic planning retreat at the Clayton Center. The retreat focused on identifying the focus areas the board will concentrate their work on to facilitate its desired future. The retreat serves as the "kick-off" for the strategic planning the Board will engage in over the next six months. More.... 

2012 Youth Summit

On March 6, 2012, CAWDB's Youth Council hosted the Eighth Annual Wake/Johnston County Youth Summit at Wake Technical Community College. Over 120 Wake and Johnston County youth participated in this year's summit. The purpose of the summit is to better equip youth for future success in educational and employment pursuits. The theme for this year's summit was "We Run the World - Celebrating Youth, Education & Employment". The summit began with a motivational speaker, Thomas Barksdale, who encouraged and provided youth with tips on how to stay on the track to success. More....

Workforce Development Professionals Month Networking Reception held by CAWDB

On May 3, 2012, CAWDB kicked off "Workforce Development Professionals Month" by recognizing its Workforce Development Professionals. Over 200 Workforce Development Professionals were invited to a networking reception. More.... 

Youth Going Green Recognition Ceremony

On April 5, 2012, CAWDB held its first recognition ceremony for the Youth Going Green (YGG) Project. The project is CAWDB's 'green' training-to-employment program for youth ages 17-21. The ceremony was held to recognize the achievements of the past year's graduates. Major accomplishments include: 100% GED graduation rate; 14 out of the 26 youth enrolled completed ten weeks of work experience; seven youth are going to continue their education; one youth accepted a place at North Carolina Central.
