From the Blog: Catholic Debate Over Saving Frozen Embryos

Did you know that there has been a debate in the Catholic Church regarding the morality of embryo donation? Some feel embryos should not be donated or adopted because in vitro fertilization is not sanctioned by the Church while others feel "saving" frozen embryos is moral and devout Catholics should embrace the process. We feel, however, there are some key points being missed in this ongoing international debate.

Dr. Sweet chimed in on the debate via a recent blog post. We invite you to read the post and offer your insights and opinion on the subject.

For The Embryo Donor: Did You Know EDI Donates to a Charity of Your Choice?

When someone gives the amazing gift of donating embryos, did you know that EDI tries to “pay it forward” too? As part of the application process, the donor gets to choose from one of ten specially chosen charities. When EDI receives the donated embryos, we will make a donation to the charity chosen by the donor.

We have international, national and regional charities from which to choose:
International:

  • Doctors Without Borders
  • Make A Wish Foundation International
  • Save The Children

National:

  • March of Dimes
  • United Way
  • RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association
  • The American Fertility Association
  • American Cancer Society

Regional:

  • Children’s Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida
  • The Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida

Embryo donors inspire us by contributing such a wonderful gift. If you would like to learn more about how EDI tries to pay it forward, please click here.

For The Embryo Recipient: Do You Know How to Choose Your Donation Center?
Choosing your embryo donation center can feel like an overwhelming task. Ever wish you had some help? EDI created a “Checklist At-A-Glance”. In addition, we created a webpage dedicated to answering this question. We’ve identified 20 questions we think should be answered before you make your decision. If you would like to learn more about what you should look for in an embryo donor program, please chick here.

If you think there are other questions that should be asked or have suggestions regarding our recommendations, please be sure to provide feedback.

Needing Support? EDI Blog Creates A List of Blogs With Tremendous Assistance

With so much information and opinions available on the web, where do you go to find the best material? EDI has put together a brand new “Blogroll,” a collection of more than a dozen of what we feel are the best blogs around. Sometimes reading a good blog post from someone who is going through infertility, has been there in the past or is a professional providing a unique twist can put a whole new perspective on the wealth of information available on the Internet. From 999 Reasons to Laugh at Infertility to the beautiful writing of Stirrup Queens, there is plenty from which to choose. Please visit the Embryo Donation Blog, and look towards the right, third block down. If you know a good blog that will be useful to patients considering donating or receiving embryos, please do send it out way. Enjoy!

Thank you for reading Embryo Donation Times by Embryo Donation International (EDI).

Our vision is simple...

  • To increase the number of cryopreserved embryos donated while reducing the number of frozen embryos discarded or abandoned.
  • To assist in matching donated embryos to patients in need in an ethical, fair and nondiscriminatory fashion.
  • To provide the largest selection of donated embryos we can so embryo recipients can have the best choice possible.

As a subdivision of Specialists In Reproductive Medicine & Surgery, P. A., we have been performing embryo donation since 2001 making us one of the most experienced embryo donation facilities in the U.S.A. We welcome you to EDI and wish you success in all that you do.
