Embryo Donation Times

Issue 2 | May 2011

Greetings!

We are excited to share that the news of our launch has been spreading! With much thanks for your support, we’re pleased to share some of our recent news coverage – online and in print.

Many of you are familiar with the American Fertility Association, a renowned non-profit organization resource for infertility prevention, reproductive health and family building. Dr. Sweet was asked to author a guest post on their blog on embryo donation, which published on April 27th.

Additionally, we were featured on the Choice Mom’s Website and used as a resource their new Guide to Embryo Donation. The new pregnancy-related website, My Birth Team also graciously allowed us to guest author a post “Is Embryo Donation Right for You?”. Finally, Dr. Sweet was also included in The Fertility Advocate’s recent piece “Don’t Overlook Embryo Donation as a Family Building Option". All of these site are fantastic resources that we encourage you visit, offering resources on a number of fertility topics.

Traditional media is catching on too. Dr. Sweet and the practice were feature in the regional publication, Gulf Coast Business Review as well as in Orlando Medical News and all of their regional sister publications. Regional publication, Gulf Coast Business Review, has also covered the practice and will be publishing their story this week. Be sure to visit their site and read it.

The Frozen Embryo Dilemma

Our goal is to save healthy cryopreserved embryos from being discarded or abandoned. It’s part of our vision, so the discussion around frozen embryos is of the highest interest. In addition to donation, patients can choose to donate their remaining embryos to scientific research or opt for a compassionate transfer. Not something frequently offered or discussed, we covered this topic in our recent blog post “The Frozen Embryo Dilemma”.

Often times after successful IVF or for other reasons, patients no longer have a need for their remaining frozen embryos. One of our goals is to educate the patients with frozen embryos in an effort to reduce the number of embryos that are abandoned or discarded. This is where the concept of embryo donation comes in and Embryo Donation International can help.

We aid those with remaining embryos and those still searching for a way to build a family - all over the world. We work with the biologic parents in donating their embryos (through a variety of options from anonymous to open, etc.) and coordinate with potential recipients using a thorough screening process. At Embryo Donation International it’s simple - we strive to save healthy crypreserved embryos and build families. Learn more on our Website.

Connecting With Other Professionals

EDI has been attending a number of meetings across the country including the ART of Donor Oocytes and Third Party Reproduction Conference, Pacific Coast Reproductive Society meeting and the New England Fertility Society meeting. We enjoyed interacting with physicians, embryologists, nurses, attorneys and support staff alike. Look for us at the Midwest Reproductive Symposium and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine meeting!

Coping with Sensitive Holidays – What to Say and Not to Say to Someone Battling Infertility

As many of you reading this can relate to, holidays, such as the recent Mother's Day and the upcoming Father's Day, can be can be very challenging for those suffering from infertility. Often times those who haven’t experienced infertility don’t know what to say or how to help their friends and loved ones through these challenging times.

In an effort to help, Dr. Sweet developed and wrote a post for the Specialists In Reproductive Medicine & Surgery, P.A., blog, www.SweetFertility.com, titled “What to Say and Not to Say to the Infertile Patient,” it offers many useful suggestions. We encourage you to visit and share your suggestions as well.

A subset of Specialists in Reproductive Medicine & Surgery, Embryo Donation International is one of the most experienced embryo donor programs in the country with our first donation procedure in 2001.

Our goal is simple, building families through embryo donation while giving the embryos the heightened level of respect that they deserve.

Thank you for your interest in our program.

Yours truly,

Craig Sweet, M.D.
