 "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all!"

It was originally written in 1892 by a Baptist minister named Francis Bellamy from Boston. At the dedication of the 1892 Chicago Worlds Fair, public school children recited the Pledge during the National School Celebration on the 400th anniversary of Columbus's Discovery of America. The words "Under God" were taken from Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg address and added by Congressional Joint Resolution 243 and signed into law by President Eisenhower in 1954.

Take time to think about and reflect on the all the words-- what does your pledge really mean? And what do you need to do personally to keep our Republic?
