Greetings!
Summer is here, but school's not out for Futures for Kids--we're working hard to learn how we can serve you better. Check out the results of our end-of-the-year educator survey, how Cisco is working with F4K to promote STEM and where we've popped up this year. The F4K Team -Susan, John, Rebecca & Ann

| F4K EDUCATORS RESPOND | | |
Survey says...
F4K surveyed our educators and got some great feedback on how the program is being used and what we can do to reach more students, more effectively. Here are some of our takeaways:
- Employers and volunteers needed: educators are actively seeking to connect their students to the world of work
- Top choices for work-based learning wishlists? Guest speakers, career fairs and job shadowing--share your availability through F4K!
- Crunching the numbers: F4K data on students' interests is being used to target job shadowing, adapt course offerings, inform course registration and help teachers connect with their students
- The web as equalizer: the program is very accessible and ideal for working with special pops, exceptional children and low readers
- You too, mom & dad: over 1/3 of schools are getting parents involved through parent nights, one-on-ones and online course registration
- Value for all ages: usage is strong throughout high school, especially in 9th and 10th grades
Haven't taken the survey? There's still time--share your thoughts now!

The grant will enable F4K to strengthen the STEM pipeline in Chatham, Durham, Orange and Person counties through meaningful work-based learning experiences with Cisco and other employers.
F4K received the grant from the Cisco Foundation's Community Impact Cash Grants program, which seeks to support the unmet needs of underserved communities in the areas of education and critical human needs.

| FROM MANTEO TO MURPHY | | |
F4K is connecting North Carolina end to end
Over this past school year, F4K has added Alexander, Caswell, Cherokee, Henderson, Madison and Swain counties--which means we are now reaching students from Manteo to Murphy and 64 school systems in between.
Whether it's forestry and mining or marine biology, students can get first-hand perspectives on careers no matter where in North Carolina they live. Want to add your voice? Sign up to be an F4K Career Coach. Don't see your county on the map? Contact us!

NC graduation rate rises above US average
North Carolina's high school graduation rate has moved above the national average for the first time in history, and the state showed the second highest improvement over the 10-year period from 1998-2008. Overall, researchers calculated North Carolina's graduation rate as 72.8 percent; the national rate was 71.7 percent.
Arizona students should be better prepared for careers, study says
Arizona students should focus their education toward specific career goals, starting at younger ages, according to an Arizona State University study. In turn, there needs to be better communication between schools and local businesses so that students know what kind of employees companies want to hire, the report said.
