Hispanic/Latino Preaching Mission held
at St. Paul's, Savannah
San PabloFor the last three years, St. Paul's, Savannah has worked at building a ministry with the Hispanic/Latino Community in Savannah. In order to increase their efforts in Mission and Evangelism with the Hispanic/Latino Community in Savannah and the surrounding areas St. Paul's hosted a Preaching Mission during the week of July 22 - July 27. The Preaching Mission was called "Encounter with Christ 2012: Go and make disciples". Each evening the services focused on one part of our Baptismal promises as they explored how to live into the call of Jesus to "Go and make disciples."

San Pablo It was very exciting to have three visitors from our Companion Diocese of the Dominican Republic come to assist St. Paul's in the Mission. The Venerable Ramn Antonio Garcia, Archdeacon of the Northern Region of the Dominican Republic, was joined by two seminarians from the Centro de Estudios Teolgicos, Luis Garcia Correa and Jos Martin Abreu. On Thursday evening, Bishop Skilton, retired Assistant Bishop of the Dominican Republic, joined us and gave a most enthusiastic sermon in both Spanish and English.

The Misa en Espaol is held at St. Paul's Savannah every Sunday at 12:15pm and is led by The Reverend Charles Todd.

A hope-er. a pray-er,
           a magic bean buyer...

If you're a pretender,
           come sit by the fire

For we have some

Cordele - Christ Episcopal Church Named GOLD TEAM SPONSOR, representing they they raised over $5,000 for the American Cancer society.

Christ Church, CordeleEvery year, Christ Episcopal Church participates in the American Cancer Society fundraiser, Relay for Life. This year the overall theme at Relay for Life was "The Colors of Cancer". Betty Levins came up with the theme "Fishing For A Cure In The Deep Blue Sea' for the Christ Episcopal Church booth. The tent was decorated with wonderful paper fish art done by some of the local elementary students at Blackshear Trails Elementary School. Fishing gear and even a large fishing cage were added, everything looked great. Each team member wore blue t-shirts with the theme on it and a cute white sailor hat . They tied the water theme to Worship On The Water (their outreach ministry). Earlier in the year, the ladies of Christ Episcopal Church put on a wonderful fundraising event to help raise money for Relay for Life. Each year gets better and better! This year the members raised a total of $5,300.

Explore the Artistic Work of Jerome Lawrence
Passionate Twilight "I am always home!" The artist cried excitedly from a window in his heart. Artist Jerome Lawrence

August 5 - October 28
Artist's Reception: August 5, 3-5 p.m

How can art so filled with beauty and hope come from tragic circumstance? The Gallery at St. Paul's invites you to come explore the mystery, converse with friends and meet artist Jerome Lawrence for an awe inspiring good time!

Jerome Lawrence of Atlanta, Georgia, is living proof that the creative impulses inherent in fine art can aid in recovery from mental illness and bring beauty out of darkness. While majoring in Studio Art at Georgia State, he found himself less and less able to communicate with others in conversation or to understand what they were saying to him. He was diagnosed in 1982 as paranoid schizophrenic, but continued to paint. Whereas some paint themselves into a corner, Jerome literally painted himself out of the corner his illness had driven him to. His paints in a variety of styles; modern, contemporary, abstract, traditional, and portrait quality work.

His commissioned works are featured in collections around the Southeast, and he has exhibited at the High Museum of Art and the Carter Center, among others. The Carter Center chose one of his works for their "Christmas Card of Hope", and also invited him to serve as a panelist on mental health issues.
