Greetings!
Fall semester is in full swing at the William H. Hannon Library! Last month brought us a moving visit from Fr. Greg Boyle (with over 600 fans who showed up to see him!), a fantastic alumni weekend, the successful kick-off event for our Dark Angel, Los Angeles Noir in Fact & Fiction series, and the opening of the traveling United States Holocaust Memorial Museum exhibit Deadly Medicine.
We have plenty more in store for you in October, including our second Pub Night faculty speaker, the first Game Night of the semester, and three more Noir talks to satisfy your cravings for the dark and twisted in film & literature during this Halloween season.
We look forward to seeing you at the library!

Pub Night
|

Ever wonder what LMU faculty do after class?
Join us for the library's ongoing Pub Night series, which celebrates the scholarly work or creative endeavors of your professors and colleagues in a casual environment (with pub refreshments and snacks!).
In September we kicked off the series with a thought-provoking talk by Political Science Professor Michael Genovese. Upcoming speakers who will be sharing their work with us throughout the semester include:
10/6 Fred Kiesner (Management & Entrepreneurship) 11/3 Glenn Gebhard (Film & Television) 12/8 Gail Wronksy (English), Gronk, & Alicia Partnoy (Modern Languages)
All events start at 5:30 p.m. in the Von der Ahe Family Suite. Pub Nights are open to everyone, and copies of the works (where applicable) will be available for sale and signing at each event. Faculty with current or upcoming significant publications who are interested in participating in Pub Nights for the 2011-2012 academic year should contact Jamie Hazlitt, Outreach Librarian.

The Dark Angel: October Offerings
| On September 28, Denise Hamilton provided a wonderful introduction to the genre of Noir in the first event of our Fall author series The Dark Angel: Los Angeles Noir in Fact and Fiction.
This month, we have three more speakers who are bringing their unique perspective on the genre to our community at LMU:
10/14 (Th) 5:30 p.m.: John Buntin, author of L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America's Most Seductive City, with guest photographers Mitch & Brittany.
10/19 (Tu) 6:30 p.m.: Alain Silver & James Ursini: authors and noted film historians who will take you through a guided commentary of film clips demonstrating the unique style of film noir, shown on the library's 103" screen.
10/21 (Th) 6:30 p.m.: Judith Freeman, author of the nonfiction work about noir legend Raymond Chandler, The Long Embrace: Raymond Chandler and the Woman He Loved.
These events will be of interest both to longtime noir fans and to those new to the genre. The Dark Angel series is open to all, and copies of the works will be available for sale and signing at each talk.
And don't miss Richard Rayner, who will wrap up the series on November 16!
