The issue is gambling expansion in Texas.
Prior to the 2011 legislative session here in Texas, Raging Elephants.org opposed the re-election of Speaker Joe Straus.Of the many reasons to oppose him being Speaker - and, for that matter, being in Texas politics, period - is his conflict of interest regarding gambling. The Speaker's family holds interest in horse racing operations. Increased gambling in Texas would mean a personal financial windfall for the Straus family.
