It felt like going to school again as we sat "around the table" to work on the ins and outs of how HCM functions and its successes. We shared and learned about business practices, doctrine, medicine, education reform, and much more. Yet one thing stuck out more than any other topic, our passion to create sustainability for the Haitian people and the future of HCM. I sincerely thank you for your support. It enables us to launch new ideas and revamp practices that have kept this mission running for 37 years. Personally, even with all the trials and downfalls, I feel I am at my best. We are not a patchwork organization, we are here to be used as God's hands and feet to heal, empower, and serve our Haitian brothers and sisters. On behalf of the PRO Haiti Movement, I personally thank you.
"Don't be afraid to challenge the pros, even in their own backyard" (Colin Powell). The history of Haiti is extremely difficult to bear or shut away. Political struggle, business manipulation, imposing domestic production, etc. have all played a part in the pessimistic poverty Haiti has inherited over the decades. From these struggles there have been some positive characteristics ingrained in the Haitian people. They have developed a wealth of faith, labor, community, and are dedicated to overthrow the perception that Haiti will remain in the same state in the future. What HCM is doing is making a real impact on the community of people we serve. Your support is a major encouragement to the Haitian community. What we are seeing is that your support, visits, and service not only encourage the Haitians but it also empowers them to work toward a better future. It creates optimism which in turn grows the light for Christ in these communities. While hosting teams it has been my observation that humanitarianism in Haiti is not a one way street; it is an integrative learning of cultures and the lives of one another. So many times I hear people leaving say that they have received more that they have given. That defines the common goal of why we are here... LOVE. Simple huh? Yep, it is that simple. When your heart, or gut feeling as they say, becomes strengthened through Christ, we become a force driven to continue to break those barriers put in front of us.
At HCM, we are confident that even with many facing economic deficits and a shortage of resources the future is bright. Our focus moving forward is the path of sustainability with new developments in health and wellness, leadership training, business solutions, and the support of local pastors. So what can you do? Get in the action, give 100% percent every day, and then let God do his work. If you are in this for yourself, you have missed the point, my friend. The point is to dig deep inside yourself and let your humanitarian actions unfold no matter what your own heart desires. Like a great man always says, With the KINGDOM in mind, the best is yet to come. Thank you much; we could not do this without you. Now is the time, now is the time. Go do something...
Best,
