Following the flood at Fonds-Verrettes in 2004 that killed more than 5000 people, my dream was to build a village called "The Christian Village" that would provide homes for some of the survivors. When I saw the influx of the deportees from the Dominican Republic, the dream became more forceful, appealing and real. Well, over the years, after revising budgets and considering the turn of the world economy, I put that dream on the back burner. But a dream is a dream and could just come from God.
In Ecclesiastes 3:11 the Bible says: "He (God) has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end." You may have a dream and claim it to be yours. It may be something that God had in mind and that He is unfolding in His time. Nothing can kill it. It may be put to sleep, but it will wake up with time.
When I look at the village in construction, I exclaim, "Oh yes, the dream is coming true." After the earthquake, my sons Edwens and Kerby decided to join our crew in the efforts of saving lives and making life livable for many. The families we were thinking about already formed a village called 'Beyond the Lake' and our visiting missionaries take the pleasure of serving them. The whole forms a unit with church and school. They are happy even in their lacking of most things, but they feel being a part of the Christian family.
We first built a few houses on separate pieces of land, but then Edwens, the present Executive Director, came up with a very brilliant idea saying, "Dad, why not build all the houses on one large piece of land where all the families could live as one big family sharing together, playing together, learning together and worshiping together." That idea pleased all of us including the architect, Kerby. We are now building the village and the dream is coming true.
The dream of building this village has become reality thanks to some godly partners. We wrote to International Disaster Emergency Services (IDES) that responded with fifteen houses, Bethel Church with ten houses, Fellowship of Associates of Medical Evangelism (FAME) with two houses, Christ's Church at Mason with one house, Don and Dorothy Kimball with land, families in Australia represented by Steve and Debbie Rasmussen with land and fence. Other supporters have stepped in to help the Haitian people they've become friends with in a direct and personal way. Some families have already moved in and are settled in. Others remain anxiously waiting on the list to move in. When the 200 houses are built, we will have a large Christian family village in readiness to praise the Lord and live together.
The plan is to reserve a play area on that land for recreation, a soccer field for Play-It-Forward, a church building for worship, a school building for children, a cafeteria for feeding the children and a shop for supplying goods. When that plan is put in place, the dream will be concrete and we will call it a home run for the Lord. So when a good project comes to your mind, it may be an inspiration from God. Do not drop it. The Author of Life may use that dream to save or help a human life.
With the KINGDOM in mind, the best is yet to come.
