RESOURCE CENTER

Dear Friends,

It's that time of the year again!  As the Fall season gracefully transitions us from the summer Philmont Farmers' Market into the winter months ahead, we complete the seasons cycle by welcoming local artists to the Resource Center for artist exhibitions that creatively contribute to the on-going revitalization in Philmont.

This season brings us six exhibitions by local artists thematically curated to expand the community discussion on the ideas to restore and conserve the abundance of natural resources in Philmont, including land conservation, water restoration at Summit Reservoir, protecting the watershed, enjoying wildlife habitats, creating natural trails, growing village gardens and parks, supporting local farming, gaining food security, and developing renewable energy resource opportunities.

Sasha Chermayeff has been painting landscapes of the Catskill Creek, on site, for twenty years, and also creates works on paper in her Catskill, NY studio.
Artist statement, "I live in the Hudson valley and work both outside, directly from life, and on studio pieces that are non-representational. My landscapes are from observation, and they are the product of the experience of being out in the open air, in the moment. I paint small paintings in one sitting, and larger canvas', demanding more time, are developed and worked on out in the elements, always looking."  more  www.sashachermayeff.com

Tasha Depp's paintings explore vision in both a physical and psychological sense. Her elaborate nature studies and detailed portraits of people, places, and things, resonate with the insecurity of a culture awaiting rapture while eating fast food. more www.tashadepp.com

Ruth Leonard's art work is a hybrid of observation and discovery using elements of landscape and still life. Her drawings are made from the examination of subjects that are often manipulated with a range of materials. The oil paintings are informed by the drawings and become a kind of iconic summary.
