It's hard to believe that another summer is behind us. As the weather cools down and the leaves start to change here in La Crosse, the Mississippi valley is about as pretty as it gets. It is a very exciting time as we are gearing up for the biggest trade show of the year and are working to convert 30,000 sq. feet of warehouse space into manufacturing space. It's a busy time for everyone as we finalize plans for 2012 and look forward to a strong finish of 2011, but I hope that you will take a few minutes to relax and enjoy the articles we've included in this issue of the Inland Informer.

Augmented Reality = Interactive Packaging

How do you create an interactive experience with your consumers? When it comes to consumer interaction, 'augmented reality' is one of the most unique, interactive packaging technologies available. Augmented reality is a new presentation tool that uses advanced imaging to combine real-world pictures with 3D computer-generated images. Used at the point-of-sale, consumers can hold up your package to a camera that will read and display a 3D version of the product on a monitor. When the package is moved or turned, the image of the product also rotates, allowing the product to be viewed from all angles. The image of the product is superimposed on various real-world images, adding to the level of consumer interaction. When used at the point-of-sale, augmented reality will call attention to your product and create the ultimate shopper experience. Read more on augmented reality.

The Key Ingredients of Innovation

In today's competitive market, brand owners have never been more aware of the tremendous opportunities that can come from innovation. But where does successful innovation come from? What are the key ingredients? According to a recent study by Silverwood Partners, the magic of innovation comes from the interplay of taste, feel, messaging, functionality, brand and ingredients. The key is to use these attributes to find a clear point of differentiation and separate your brand from its competitors. Once you have done this, it's all about execution and promotion. One of the reasons the Coors Light temperature activatedCoors Light Cold Activated Label label was so successful was due to the creative, integrated marketing campaign that went with the packaging innovation. Email us to discuss innovative packaging ideas that can differentiate your brand.

Get Creative with Color
The stakes are high at the retail shelf; your customer has to be attracted to your packaging or they will move on to the next product. In Package Color; the Ultimate Consumer Persuader, we learn that one-of-a-kind packaging comes from a synergy of color palette, distinctive graphics, and brand identity. Color has psychological implications which can help establish brand differentiation, especially when you combine your brand color with an uncharacteristic color. The article notes, "It takes courage to break new ground, but if executed correctly and tested, packaging that breaks the color mold within categories, bringing a new structural element, icon, or delivery system into the marketplace can succeed brilliantly." Learn how to get creative with color here.
