MCAA National Update for July 23, 2012

MCAA RELEASES 2012-2013 TOOL & EQUIPMENT RENTAL GUIDE

Tool & Equipment Rental GuideThe new edition of MCAA's Tool & Equipment Rental Guide provides quick and easy access to comprehensive cost recovery information for mechanical construction, service and plumbing tools and equipment. The rental rates are based on ownership and operating costs for contractor-owned equipment that have been derived from formulas and data developed by the experts at EquipmentWatch and from analytic methods used in the construction industry. These methods consider purchase price, depreciation, maintenance and overhaul costs, indirect equipment costs and average annual use hours. The guide is in two formats: a traditional PDF that includes information to help you adjust the rates for your state's economic conditions and an Excel spreadsheet that makes it easy to import the data into your pricing system. Your copy is free-another benefit of MCAA membership. To download it, visit www.mcaa.org/store.

MCAA CONTRIBUTES $1 MILLION TO MCERF
MCAA's Board of Directors has approved a $1 million contribution to the Mechanical Contracting Education & Research Foundation (MCERF) to support its growing list of education and research activities. MCAA's decision follows the Foundation's announcement of its new "MCERF scholarship" program and plans to increase its research programs. MCAA President Mac Lynch expressed the Board's hope that this contribution will stimulate increased financial support of MCERF by the other members of the MCAA family. Among the many other issues discussed during its 2012 summer meeting: the association's financial condition; multiemployer pension plan reform legislation; development of an inventory of construction industry multiemployer benefit plans; legislation on bid listing on direct federal prime contract low-bid selection procedures; the Financial Accounting Standards Board's withdrawal of a controversial proposal expanding on ways companies would have to include potential loss contingencies in their audited financial statements; plans for MCAA 2013 in San Antonio, TX; the program for MSCA LIVE 2012 in Carlsbad, CA and other MSCA educational and marketing offerings; plans to develop a training module for UA apprentices on the MCAA program explaining the full cost of an hour of labor; issues to be discussed with the executives of MCAA's local affiliated associations at their upcoming conference in Asheville, N.C.; issues concerning Building Information Modeling (BIM), including development of a new MCAA guide to the spatial coordination process; upcoming Management Methods Committee publications; and Career Development Committee programs and activities, including the allocation of Chapter Grants and Student Internship Grants and plans for the 2012 Student Chapter Summit in Kansas City, MO. The Board also affirmed a scheduled dues increase of one cent per hour, effective January 1, 2013. This follows a two-year deferral of the increase, which was originally scheduled to take effect January 1, 2011.
