WE'RE GOING TO KANSAS CITY FOR 2012 STUDENT CHAPTER SUMMIT
Kansas City here we come for MCAA's 2012 Student Chapter Summit. The annual conference that's for and about the students and faculty advisors who comprise our student chapter program takes place October 4-6 in the city celebrated by the infamous Fats Domino song. Hosted by the MCA of Kansas City, the conference features opening remarks by MCAA President Mac Lynch and MCA of Kansas City Vice President Bill Alexander, sessions on scheduling, project bid proposal development, MSCA's GreenSTAR program, professional networking tips, and career development advice from recent graduates. And, traditional favorites-the announcement of the MCAA 2012-2013 Student Chapter Competition, a presentation by the 2011 MCAA Student Chapter of the Year and the annual mini competition-are also included. Tours are of the mechanical systems supporting the Kauffman Performing Arts Center and the Kansas City Chiefs' Arrowhead Stadium (sponsored by MMC Contractors, Inc.). The annual dinner will take place at the world-renowned National World War I Museum. SERVICE MANAGER'S TRAINING PROGRAM IDEAL FOR NEW AND SEASONED STAFF
Service managers can grow their management and leadership abilities during MSCA's Service Manager's Training Program (September 10-13, 2012 in Chicago, IL). Whether you have little or no formal management training or you want to enhance your management skills to become a more effective leader, this course is well worth your time. Topics will include financial management, communications, coaching, managing conflict, motivating employees and more. A variety of small group activities, assessment tools, and skills building exercises will help you apply the skills you learn in class, preparing you to go back to the office ready to put to work what you've learned. QUALIFIED-LEVEL ARC FLASH SAFETY TRAINING COULD SAVE LIVES!
Two NFPA 70E Qualified-Level Arc Flash Safety Training sessions are being offered for MCAA/MSCA members' employees who are potentially exposed to live conductors of 50 volts of electricity or more during their workday. These training sessions will take place on June 13, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time and are being offered at a special rate for MCAA/MSCA members. Presented by the Hilgeman Group, the session covers all OSHA and NFPA requirements, best practices and NFPA's recent changes to the 70E requirements and provides participants with real-world accident information that will reinforce the importance of this training. PROJECTS GO BETTER WITH BIM...FIND OUT WHY AND HOW
MCAA's BIM for Mechanical Contractors series (October 1-2 in Kansas City, MO) will enhance your knowledge of BIM processes and skill in making the most effective use of this dynamic process for coordinating the construction of buildings. And, we'll bring you up to date on the key issues surrounding BIM. On October 1, David Morris (EMCOR's Director of Virtual Construction) and Frank Musica (Senior Risk Management Attorney for Victor O. Schinnerer & Company, Bethesda, MD) will team up to lead the BIM Contracts & Risk Allocation course. On October 2, Morris will lead the course on BIM Process & Technology Implementation. Once again, CNA Insurance and TSI are co-sponsoring the courses; CNA is sponsoring the Day 1 course, and TSI is sponsoring the Day 2 course. WHAT'S YOUR BUILDING'S BEQ?
How does your building rate...in terms of its energy usage? If you're not sure and you want to find out, then plan to participate in MCAA's next Green Building Webinar on the ASHRAE Building Energy Quotient Program, June 14 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern time. ASHRAE will soon launch a new program to educate owners and operators, tenants and prospective buyers about how much energy buildings use. The Building Energy Quotient (BEQ) program includes an operational rating for commercial buildings and will provide users with a simple way to measure and compare building efficiencies. Tim Wentz, associate professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and ASHRAE vice president, will lead the webinar. MCA OF KANSAS CITY CONTRIBUTES TO MCERF
In addition to the MCA of Kansas City's efforts to support MCAA industry events, the association also sent a $5,000 donation to the Mechanical Contracting Education & Research Foundation (MCERF), raising its total contributions to $265,000. The association's continuing support enables the Foundation to continue its education and research programs.
