| MCAA National Update for March 22, 2012 |
MCAA 2012 PROVIDED MEMBERS WITH THE TOOLS TO TAKE ON NEW BUSINESS CHALLENGES
Two-thousand members and friends of the MCAA family came to MCAA 2012 and Walt Disney World®, FL and experienced and celebrated the association's best. The program featured an exceptional line-up of distinguished and accomplished speakers from business, government and professional sports along with others who gave us new ideas about how to streamline our businesses, improve operations and increase profits while finding more time and ways to enjoy life along the way. Educational sessions focused on: economic and market conditions over the next few months; better ways for multiple generations to connect and communicate; improving leadership and teambuilding skills for today's workplaces; rethinking ways to achieve success; starting a peer group; the new rules governing multiemployer defined benefit pension plans; what's behind Disney's magic; how Integrated Project Delivery can cut project costs and headaches; project planning ideas to reduce risk and supercharge operational efficiency; business succession do's and don'ts; predicting the future success of your business; how to demonstrate labor productivity losses; improving the management of change orders and claims; how to increase profits in the welding business; and great ideas for building successful projects. Entertainment events included an Evening at Epcot® featuring desserts under the stars and a brilliant fireworks display. The Closing Party at Disney's Hollywood Studios® gave attendees a taste of tinsel town, including a red carpet welcome, dinner on the movie back lots and fun-filled movie-themed rides-unforgettable memories to last a life time. From the opening session to the closing program, attendees experienced MCAA's best, as they learned of and honored their industry's accomplishments. And so much more... |
MCAA HONORED ACHIEVEMENT, WELCOMED NFL COACHING LEGEND JIMMY JOHNSON
The Annual Awards Breakfast on March 20 honored members' sports achievements, exceptional safety performance and celebrated the winner of the 2011 - 2012 Student Chapter Competition. Following the announcement of the winners of the golf tournament, tennis tournament, and Fun Run/Walk, MCAA President Mark Rogers announced the winners of the 2011 Safety Excellence Awards: Ceroni Piping Company of Belvidere, IL (Category I); Indoor Environmental Services of Sacramento, CA (Category II); Cleveland Mechanical Services of Atlanta, GA (Category III); Nooter Construction Company of Trevose, PA (Category IV); and BMWC Group, Inc. of Indianapolis, IN (Category V). Rogers and Career Development Committee Chairman Brett Christiansen presented trophies and cash prizes to the finalists of this year's Student Chapter Competition: first prize and $5,000 went to Student Chapter of Specialty Contracting (Mechanical/Electrical at Southern Polytechnic State University. The $2,500 prize for second place went to the Sacramento State Chapter of the MCAA. The Illinois State University Mechanical and Electrical Contractors Association is the 2011 Student Chapter of the Year and Prof. Blake Wentz of the Milwaukee School of Engineering was honored as the 2011 Educator of the Year. Former NFL coach Jimmy Johnson-best known for his years with the Dallas Cowboys-shared stories from his professional career and valuable life lessons he learned. |
MAC LYNCH BECOMES NEW MCAA PRESIDENT AS 123nd CONVENTION CLOSES
William J. "Mac" Lynch of William F. Lynch Company, Inc. (Worcester, MA) became MCAA's new president at the closing session of MCAA 2012. Outgoing President Mark Rogers delivered farewell remarks after presenting plaques of appreciation to retiring Board of Directors members Bob armistead, Mike Candido and Bill Bartley. Joining MCAA's Board of Directors are Scott Berger of Arista Air Conditioning Corporation (Long Island City, NY), Armand Kilijian of O'Brien Mechanical Inc. II (San Francisco, CA), Nick Sapnar of Sunnyfield Corporation (Ocean, NJ) and Frank Schaetzke of Zurn Industries (Pipersville, PA). Assistant General President Steve Kelly addressed the attendees on behalf of United Association General President Bill Hite. Steve Dawson of Harrell-Fish, Inc. (Bloomington, IN) became the newest member of the Executive Committee, where he will serve as vice president/assistant treasurer. Rounding out the program was veteran television journalist Bob Schieffer, former anchor of the CBS Evening News and host of CBS' Face the Nation. President Lynch ended the program by inviting all to attend MCAA 2013 at the JW Marriott Hill Country Resort in San Antonio, TX, March 17 - 21. |
