MCAA 2012
MCAA MEMBERS CELEBRATE THE MAGIC AND MAJESTY OF MCAA 2012 AT OPENING EVENTS
Sunday evening's Opening Party Celebrating the Spirit of the Animal Kingdom® gave attendees a taste of the magical week to come. MCAA President Mark Rogers opened the association's 123rd annual convention to cheers of appreciation from 2000 attendees. A surprise video of President Rogers caused a roar of laughter and appreciation for a light-hearted beginning to this always amazing event. He greeted MCAA members and United Association representatives and then delivered a message about how his family, MCAA's many educational and business-development resources helped him build his business and achieve success. Rogers then presented MCAA's highest honor - the Distinguished Service Award - to Bill Erickson of C.J. Erickson Plumbing Co. (Alsip, IL) in recognition of his many contributions to MCAA as a past member of its Board of Directors, chairman of the Plumbing Contractors of America, member of the Government Affairs and Green Coordinating Committees and MCAA's representative on the board of the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials and continuing member of that organization's Green Technical Committee. President Rogers welcomed former Secretary of Defense Dr. Robert Gates who shared his insights and perspectives on current America's changing role as an international power. This afternoon, the finalists in the 2011-2012 Student Chapter Competition are presenting their project proposals on stage. Today's education sessions featured economist Anirban Basu who shared his view of how our industry may fare over the next few months, the Disney Institute's approach to providing quality service to its customers, business consultant Ian MacDougall's insights on what it takes to be a great company and how to plan for and respond to your company's life cycle changes, and Walt Sperko's tips on how to increase profits with piping installations. Other afternoon sessions are covering Peer Groups and How to Get Started led by Kevin Armistead and Tom Williams, Integrated Project Delivery featuring Greg Fuller and What You Need to Know about Multiemployer Defined Benefit Pension Plans led by Lawrence Beebe, Jim Estabrook, Cary Franklin, John McNerney and Dick Sawhill. Read on about even more valuable educational sessions and amazing social events.
