MCAA National Update for February 13, 2012

TIME IS RUNNING OUT TO SEND IN YOUR 2011 SAFETY STATISTICS

If you have not yet submitted your safety statistics for 2011, act quickly because time is short. The MCAA/CNA Annual Safety Awards program provides MCAA contractors with exemplary safety records the opportunity to participate in a program that recognizes and honors their achievement. If you believe your company should take its place among the safety elite, then make sure you submit its 2011 safety statistics on the online form. You can find the form and detailed information about the program at www.mcaa.org/safetyawards. If your program meets the eligibility requirements for an award, you will receive a safety awards application electronically. Completed applications are due to MCAA no later than February 17, 2012. This program is free as a benefit of MCAA membership. Please contact Pete Chaney with questions (pchaney@mcaa.org).

AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER REPORTS ON MCAA'S PUBLICATION ON CHANGE ORDERS, PRODUCTIVITY, OVERTIME

The February 2012 issue ofthe prestigious newsletter Under Construction, The Newsletter of the ABA Forum on the Construction Industry included an article recognizing MCAA's recent comprehensive update to Change Orders, Productivity, Overtime-A Primer for the Construction Industry (www.mcaa.org/store). The lead author was industry consultant Paul Stynchcomb of FTI Consulting, Inc. (Rockville, MD). In the article, Recent Developments in Establishing Claims for Delays and Lost Productivity, Charles Choyce, also of FTI Consulting, provided background on MCAA's Factors Affecting Labor Productivity, the basis for the primer, which was initially developed in the early 1970's to help specialty contractors support their claims for "entitlement and proper quantification of impacts associated with change orders, delays and lost labor productivity." SMACNA has endorsed the publication, and NECA has endorsed the MCAA Factors as a basis for electrical contractors' claims for lost productivity. The latest changes to the primer will be discussed during a seminar at MCAA 2012 on Wednesday, March 21 and led by Stynchcomb, How to Manage Change Orders and Claims. If you haven't registered yet, go to www.mcaa.org/mcaa2012 for full details on this seminar and the other exceptional business-growth educational offerings. It's the best investment you'll make all year!

MCAA TOOLBOX SAFETY TALK ALERT

There is an error in one of the bullets in MCAA's Toolbox Safety Talk - Volume Five #4, Rigging Safety Tips (Part 1). The fifth bullet incorrectly states, "Never choke below the threads on synthetic web slings." It should state, "Always choke below the threads on flat synthetic web slings." Please inform all affected employees in your company about the error and provide them with the corrected version, which is available at www.mcaa.org/private/safety/toolboxtalks.
