MCAA National Update for February 6, 2012
IS YOUR COMPANY A SAFETY STAR?
If you believe your company is among those that have achieved excellence in its safety training and performance, then be sure to participate in the MCAA/CNA Annual Safety Awards program. This distinguished program honors contractor members that have made all the right moves to establish safety as a priority from the top down. To participate, you must complete and submit your company's 2011 safety statistics on an online form. If your program meets the eligibility requirements for an award, you will receive a safety awards application electronically. Completed applications are due to MCAA no later than February 17, 2012, so time is running short. Go to www.mcaa.org/safetyawards for more information and the online form. This program is free as a benefit of MCAA membership. Please contact Pete Chaney with questions (pchaney@mcaa.org).

FOUR TEAMS CHOSEN FOR MCAA STUDENT CHAPTER COMPETITION FINALS
A panel of four judges has selected the four MCAA student chapter teams that will defend their project bid proposals at MCAA 2012 (Walt Disney World®) on March 19. The teams are from the following schools: Illinois State University, Milwaukee School of Engineering, California State University, Sacramento; and Southern Polytechnic State University. The teams scored best out of 27 entries from 26 MCAA student chapters and a team from Canada. The project involved the renovation of an historic building in downtown San Francisco into the Asian Art Museum, a job that actually took place about 10 years ago. John Powell of Marelich Mechanical Company, Inc. (Hayward, CA) and a member of the Career Development Committee arranged for our use of the project in the competition. The teams will compete for a first prize of $5,000. The runner-up will receive $2,500 and the other two finalists will each receive $1,000. Our thanks to first round competition judges Kathy McCauley of McCauley Mechanical Construction, Inc. (Bridgeview, IL), Jim Jarvis of J.F. Ahern Co. (Fond du Lac, WI), Woody Woodall of the W.L. Gary Company, Inc. (Washington, D.C.) and Troy Aichele of Stirrett-Johnsen, Inc. (Silverdale, WA). For more information about the MCAA student chapter program and the competition, please contact Ann Mattheis (amattheis@mcaa.org).
