St. Stephen's Weekly Touchstone
The Week of the 14th Sunday after Pentecost

August 28, 2012

Thought of the Week

When I pulled up to the church office this morning, I noticed a shiny light pole with a little sign in front.  It stated "Wet Paint."  I looked down the cemetery and realized that every pole was shiny black.  There are no longer any peeling rust colored green poles!  Chris Ramsey has been working on this project for three years and now he has finished! Well done, Chris!

As we prepare to kick off another exciting program year, I would like to propose that there are numerous opportunities for all of you to play a part in glorifying God through our shared life at St. Stephen's. I wrote to you earlier this summer to ask that you consider taking part in a new church ministry. Everyone has something to offer and there are so many ways that you can contribute to the ministry of our church like joining the altar guild, chalicist guild, choir, flower guild, lectors, ushers, acolytes, Sunday school teachers, and youth group helpers. We are going to be adding a junior acolyte position this year as well as exploring having a group dedicated to welcoming visitors and new members. Come be a part of something awesome, join a ministry at St. Stephen's!

See you in church!

Fr. Josh

A Message from our Food Pantry Leadership

This Fall we will pass the torch of leadership of our Food Pantry
Ministry from Sheila and Trina to willing parishioners.  St. Stephen's
is looking for a member of our community to join the Food Pantry Board,
and the same or another member to coordinate our volunteer activities at
the Pantry. This is an excellent way to meet members of nearby
congregations, and understand the operations behind this Ministry. If
you would like to understand more about these roles, please be in touch
with Sheila at [email protected], or Trina at
Best,
Sheila

Summer at St. Stephen's Church

A BLESSED FALL IS COMING! We will resume our regular 10 am Sunday schedule for Kick off Sunday on September 9th.  We will have the Blessing of the Back Packs and a light breakfast after the service. Please start bringing in school supply donations to be sent to the school we partner with in the Dominican Republic.

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS For our Kick Off Breakfast on September 9th we are looking for you to lend a hand. Laura Johnson, our Parish Life Vestry Person, needs some people to help with setting up, bringing food and drink (think breakfast!), and some saintly folks to help with the clean up. Please let her know what you can do: [email protected]

ARE YOU A SUNDAY SCHOOL PARENT? Also on Sunday, September 9th is the Parent Meeting for Sunday School aged children following the 10am service. At this meeting you'll learn about the programming for the church year and hear about the education of our youngest members.

ARE YOU A YOUTH GROUP PARENT? On Sunday, September 23rd all Youth Group parents will meet with Father Josh to hear about plans for this upcoming year. It promises to be a fun one!

THE BIBLE THROUGH ART  Starting September 23 at 9:00 am, we will gather in Fr. Josh's office to experience the whole Bible story through artistic images.  This visual journey will culminate in a trip to the Cloisters Museum in upper Manhattan.  Join us for this fun and interesting gathering.
