The Week Leading up to the  Fifth Sunday in Lent

Thought of the Week

I spent Monday through Wednesday of this week at the Priest's Conference for the Diocese of New York.  Our guest speaker, former Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold, spoke on Benedictine spirituality and in one of the many moments that spoke to my heart he insisted that every time we come together for worship, it should be the first time.  I believe Bishop Griswold was suggesting that we engage every moment of worship with the expectation that something new is happening.  Something that has never happened before and never will happen again is taking place.  This was the idea of liminality that I tried to express in my sermon on Sunday.  This is how we can become a new creation.  This is how we can understand ever present hope of redemption.

I invite you to walk the Holy Week walk again for the first time April 17-24.  Come proclaim the victorious entry of our Lord into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.  Come hear the tender words of love as we celebrate the institution of the Lord's Supper and the humble relationality of God in Christ washing the disciples' feet on Maundy Thursday.  Come walk up the hill with Jesus in the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday.  Come celebrate the new light eternal shining forth unquenchable at the Easter Vigil on Saturday night.  And come sing sweet Alleluias and hoist a flowering hyacinth to proclaim the good news of boundless love on Easter Morning.  This is the one chance we get every year to walk again for the first time the redemptive path of the Cross and Resurrection that provides a touchstone from which all truth and meaning gains value.

See you in Church!

Fr. Josh
