A Word From Kirk Bray

I recently read a story you will soon see in the SuperLooper about the 2010 NHSRA Junior High and High School Rodeo Finals team roping champions. All four of these young men are USTRC members and each represented their sport well at their respective Finals. Besides a shared passion for the sport, they also told us about their strong family support system and have plans to attend a Regional Finals and the Cinch National Finals of Team Roping with their families.

I'm reminded everyday about the business side of the sport of team roping and the role USTRC plays in it. So much so that on some days, my perspective gets clouded about what makes team roping so unique and special, and that is family. The sport of rodeo and team roping are truly family sports. Where else can family and friends go to compete together and share such common interests? Family is and will continue to be synonymous with the sport of team roping and especially with the USTRC.

I travel with my family to junior rodeos around the state whenever possible and get a great deal of satisfaction watching my children develop their skills, make friends and learn the responsibility of taking care of their horses. I know many of you do the same with your young ones, and even compete with them when you have the opportunity.

While I'll never forget that this sport is a business and USTRC works to be the best in the business, I'll also never forget that it's about family, too. That's why the Jr. Looper division, where these four boys all got their start, and other youth related roping activities remain an important priority.

We hope to see your family at an upcoming USTRC sanctioned event or Regional Finals events taking place this month.

Draw In An Option

If you would like to use the Draw-In Option to enter a Preliminary division at a Regional Finals click here to find out the divisions you are eligible to draw in. (Note: The Draw-In Option isn't available for entry into any Shoot-Out division)

When filling out the Preliminary entry form, located in SuperLooper Magazine or online at
www.ustrc.com, please choose the division (or divisions) you want to enter and indicate the end you intend to rope by writing your name in the space provided (header or heeler), and write "DRAW" in the space provided for your partner. This will ensure that you draw from the correct pool of partners, either headers or heelers.  You only need to send in your side of the entry fee (or entry fees) with the entry form.

Draw positions (or team numbers) for DRAW TEAMS will be available at
www.ustrc.com on Wednesday prior to the start of the event. You may also check with the on-site event entry office for your draw position.

Rule Change Reminder:

As Published in the January issue of SuperLooper Magazine and the 2010 USTRC Rule Book, Rule 4.2.9, Entering with the same partner, has been changed. The new rule states that ropers cannot enter the same division at an event with the same partner more than once. NO EXCEPTIONS!

You're Qualified But You Gotta Rope!

To sweeten the pot for its members, USTRC provides every member, including Gold Plus, Gold Spur, Lifetime and Junior Looper members, an opportunity to compete in its showcase "Shoot-Out" ropings at the Regional and/or National Finals events through the purchase of their membership.  As per Section 5, Rule 5.3.4, Shoot-Out Eligibility: In order to be fully eligible to compete in a Regional or National Finals Shoot-Out division, a roper must be a current USTRC member in good standing and have competed in a USTRC sanctioned or affiliated event during the season.
