NNA News You Can Use
Nevada Nurses Association
February, 2012

Greetings!

NNA is moving forward with the mentoring project, and we hope that you will decide to be a mentor for a new grad. The time commitment is small and the benefit to nursing and the personal satisfaction could be great. Please email me if you are interested in volunteering 15 minutes per week for this project.

NNA has an opportunity to change the style and format of News You Can Use. We are considering replacing it with Nursing News Flash which would come out twice weekly and would include national as well as association news. Please let us know what you think. Take a look at the South Carolina Nurses Association Nursing News Flash, which is very similar to what we would have, and then vote for your preference--to switch to Nursing News Flash or to stay with News You Can Use. The purpose of our publications is to benefit our members, and we would like to know what you would prefer.

Nurse Appreciation Night at the Reno Bighorns is scheduled for March 17, 2012. Join the Nevada Nurses Association, Western Nevada College, Carrington College, and Truckee Meadows Community College, as the Reno Bighorns take on the NBA affiliate of the Golden State Warriors.

This event will support nursing scholarships and will mark the launch of the NNA, Reno Bighorns, Kohl's, and Active 20-30 Club campaign to fight childhood obesity.

ANA Making Preparations for National Elections

ANA is the process of preparing for the endorsement process for the national and presidential elections. There will be much more information to follow and a vote of ANA/NNA members in the near future to help determine their endorsement. I will provide information as it becomes available, so that our members can make sure their voices are heard.

The other big announcement coming out of ANA government affairs is the date of this year's Nurses CAN (Campaign Activity Night), which will take place on October 17. You are encouraged to get involved in working for a campaign--any campaign--if only for one evening. It is a great opportunity to remind everyone that nurses are a large and powerful group.

Please let me know if you have comments, suggestions, or information you want included in the next News You Can Use.

Warmest regards,

Margaret
