Greetings!
Happy Thanksgiving!
November 7-13 is Nurse Practitioner Week, and we honor Advanced Practice Nurses. Please show your support for these colleagues by writing a letter in support of the APN Autonomous Practice Initiative!
As the 2011 Legislative session approaches, activity on the APN autonomous practice initiative is heating up. Please watch for emails and calls to action on our website. The District One Election is underway. If you haven't yet voted, please do it now. We have been receiving some job announcements lately. These are always available on our website, but if you are a job seeker and would like to be on our Job Seekers Mailing List, please email me at nvnursesassn@mvqn.net. I'll send out announcements to this list as soon as they come in. Based on the member vote, the ANA dues increase will be passed on to members. As a result, NNA/ANA dues will increase by $4 on January 1. |

| NNA Autonomous Practice Initiative |
The 2011 legislative session begins this February. During this legislative session, under the sponsorship of Senator Sheila Leslie, the Nevada Nurses Association will be introducing the APN autonomous practice initiative. This initiative seeks to remove the mandate for a collaborative written agreement between an APN and a physician. We believe this creates unnecessary barriers to APN practice as well as presents issues for access to health care for Nevadans. As this becomes more publicized, nurses across the state may be asked by physician colleagues, patients and members of their community about this initiative. You can learn more about this issue by reading the frequently asked questions (FAQ) on the NNA website: www.nvnurses.org. Nurses working together CAN make a difference! |

ANA marked the 10 year anniversary of the Safe Needles Save Lives campaign on November 4, but much remains to be done to protect nurses from this risk. For information and materials, visit www.needlestick.org.
The International Council of Nurses has released a new online interactive learning course on tuberculosis. Access the course at http://www.icn.ch/projects/tb-online-learning-resources/. "Care, prevention and management of tuberculosis provides practical online tools to nurses and those involved in caring for patients, families and communities affected by TB, including drug-resistant TB. The course is widely applicable for all settings, while also dealing with the challenges of providing care when resources are scarce and the workload is high." |
