MedScape reports that at the International AIDS Conference, which just took place in Vienna, Austria, the CAPRISA (Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa) study, researchers reported that the use of vaginal gel microbicide by women reduced the incidence of new HIV infection by about 40%. Additionally, they found that the incidence of newly acquired herpes simplex virus infections was also dramatically reduced.
