We hope you are enjoying the summer. The new NNA website is now up and operational. Check it out at www.nvnurses.org. New NNA only members can now join online, and in a few months, NNA only members will be able to renew online. We'll keep you informed.
 
The NNA District 1 Legislative Meet & Greet will be held on August 19 from 5:30-8:30 at the Willow Springs Outpatient Center. Please email if you need directions or more information. We hope to see you there!

First Planning Teleconference Held for New Nurse Special Practice Group
The first planning teleconference for the NNA New Nurse Special Practice Group was held on August 5. The group discussed a variety of options to support nurses in the first five years of practice, including a discussion of a possible role for mentors.

MedScape reports that at the International AIDS Conference, which just took place in Vienna, Austria, the CAPRISA (Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa) study, researchers reported that the use of vaginal gel microbicide by women reduced the incidence of new HIV infection by about 40%. Additionally, they found that the incidence of newly acquired herpes simplex virus infections was also dramatically reduced. Early bird registration is now open for the 2010 NNA State Convention to be held October 22-23 in Las Vegas. The event will kick off with a Mix & Mingle on Friday at the Old 5th Street School. The Convention will begin Saturday morning and will feature a keynote presentation by Major Maureen Nolan, RN, BSN, USAR Ret.
