Featured Preacher: Larry Terrell Crudup
Larry Terrell Crudup preached at both National Festivals of Young Preachers. Larry is a first year M.Div student with a concentration in African American Studies at Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, Texas.
"I'm involved with the Fund for Theological Education and many other efforts to promote ecumenism. Hands down, this is one of the best and most ecumenical conferences I've ever been to. The Academy of Preachers allows me to be part of something beyond me, where it's OK to be me. I can celebrate who I am and celebrate everyone else for who they are."
Larry's mother and home church groomed him to be a preacher from an early age. He began preaching 10-minute 'mini-sermons' at his church through a program called Youth Speakout. His mom was a leader in the church's youth group who taught him how to develop, compose and deliver sermons as a young boy.
About three years ago, Pastor Dante D. Wright of Sweet Home Baptist Church, licensed Larry to preach. When asked about his favorite preachers, he mentioned the Rev. Dr. Ralph West. "He has an ability to blend academics and culture to speak to both the theologically trained and untrained listeners."
We look forward to being part of Larry's continued success as an engaging preacher of the gospel. Thank you, Larry, for being a partner and advocate of the Academy of Preachers. We here at the Academy are proud to have a talented Young Preacher like Larry as one of our alumni.

Greetings!
Registration for the 2012 National Festival of Young Preachers is now open!
The Academy of Preachers is now accepting registrations for the 2012 National Festival of Young Preachers, to be held once more at the Seelbach Hilton Hotel and Cathedral of the Assumption in downtown Louisville, Kentucky January 2-5, 2011. There are preaching slots (in 5 venues) for 125 young preachers, up from the 120 slots available at the 2011 Festival.
Each preacher will preach a sermon related to, or derived from, the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7.) A trained, experienced evaluator will provide a written constructive critique for each sermon. Festival sermons will be published in a book by Chalice Press.
The early bird Festival registration fee is $100 before September 1, 2011 and $150 after. Registration will close on October 1, 2011.
Participants must be 16 by January 1, 2012, although younger people may receive an age waver on a case by case basis, and no older than 28 when registration is submitted. All young adults who preach in the National Festival will be inducted into the Academy of Preachers in a formal ceremony on the last day of the Festival, Thursday, January 5, 2012.

A Word from Dr. Moody
In 2012, the National Festival of Young Preachers will feature three workshops for the first time. This is being done in response to the evaluation forms we have received. You are telling us you want help! So we have put together these three pre-festival workshops scheduled for Monday afternoon, January 2, 2012, from 3-5 p.m.
COACHING
Every preacher needs a coach; this is a fundamental conviction of the Academy of Preachers. They need someone who can help them develop the skills necessary for more effective communication of the gospel. This workshop is open to 10 Young Preachers who are accompanied by his or her mentor/coach; both must attend. Cost is $25 per pair (coach and Young Preacher).
SPEAKING
Every preacher needs to make progress, both as an interpreter of the Bible and as a public speaker. After watching sermon videos, I am well aware of the issues that confront many Young Preachers: including presentation, presence and pitch, and content, imagination and appeal. We have strategies to help you. Workshop limited to 15 Young Preachers, and cost is $25 per person.
HOSTING
Institutions around the country are inquiring about hosting campus events, especially the Campus Festival of Preaching. This year, we are assisting with at least 10 Campus Festivals in such places as Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Texas. Your school, church or organization can collaborate with us in this. It is a very engaging, cost-effective way to bring fresh attention to preaching and ministerial vocations. At this Hosting workshop, those who have successfully hosted events will share with you their strategies. This workshop has unlimited registration, $25 per institution.
These workshops mark a significant enlargement of our Festival schedule, but they are consistent with our mission as an organization and certainly responsive to our constituencies. To reserve your spot at a workshop, contact Lee Huckleberry at leehuckleberry@gmail.com.
I'm looking forward to a wonderful new year in January of 2012.
-Dwight A. Moody, Founder & President

"The Academy of Preachers is a national, ecumenical initiative launched through a generous grant from the Lilly Endowment of Indianapolis and enlarged through the gifts of individuals and organizations. The Academy is energized by the conviction that gospel preaching is a vocation of public and social significance, a calling worthy of the very best and brightest of our young people."
