 Greetings!

The Academy of Preachers is proud to present the first monthly installment of the iPreach Newsletter, a new communications designed to inform, connect and inspire all those who are a part of our growing organization. We look forward to staying in touch over the coming year.

"The Academy of Preachers an ecumenical initiative launched through a generous grant from the LIlly Endowment and energized by the conviction that gospel preaching is a vocation of public and social significance, a calling worthy of the very best and brightest of our young people."

Since our beginnings in January 2009, the Academy has helped young people across the country to pursue God's call to gospel preaching. In 2010, our organization is expanding to reach many more. We invite you to learn more about the opportunities available to you through the Academy. Visit us online at www.AcademyofPreachers.net.

2010 Festival of Young Preachers
2010 Festival of Young PreachersNinety-two young preachers came from 21 states and 41 schools to preach at the inaugural Festival of Young Preachers in Louisville, Ky. on January 7-9, 2010. Over the course of the three day event, each young preachers spoke in one of four preaching venues at the St. Matthews Baptist Church. The event was unlike any other in the country, and the participants and more than 600 guests who attended left with a great sense of blessing.

"It was like a revival," wrote a young preacher upon returning to his Presbyterian congregation in Prestonsburg, Kentucky.

Many were inspired by the Festival to pursue a call to preaching full-time. The Sunday following the festival, one young woman walked the aisle of her Disciple of Christ congregation and announced her call to Christian ministry.

The festival was open to young preachers of any denomination between the ages of 16 and 28 who could secure a sponsoring congregation. Each young preacher was introduced by his or her preaching mentor and was allowed 16 minutes to preach.

A Word from Dr. Moody
Reflections on the 2010 Festival of Preachers

Dwight A. Moody, Executive Director
What happened in Louisville in January 2010 was truly remarkable. Nothing like it had ever happened-not ever, not since Jesus! 92 young preachers from all over the country put aside denominational and doctrinal differences and gathered to celebrate their call to preach the gospel.

The new Academy of Preachers may be the most ecumenical initiative in American Christianity. From Antiochian Orthodox to Nazarene, from Harvard Divinity School to the Kentucky Mountain Bible College, from Southern Baptist to Roman Catholic: I have never been to an assembly like this festival of young preachers.

"I am coming back next year," more than one young preacher said me. "It will be twice as big."  That may be a prophesy about next January, but it certainly was a testimony about the inspiration we all felt and the friendships we all made during our 3 days in Louisville.

Only 4 who were scheduled to preach did now make it: 2 got sick, one was hindered by snow, and one was called away to a family event. But those that came were both anxious and eager: anxious to preach in front of peers and eager to hear their peers preach. It was 56 hours of spectacular spiritual renewal.

Thank God I was there.

- Dwight Moody, Executive Director
