Please Join Us in Welcoming Michael Sugden

National CooperativeRx is excited to announce that Michael Sugden has joined our team as the cooperative's National Sales Leader.

As National Sales Leader, Sugden will continue the cooperative's dual objectives of being an asset to cooperative members and enlarging our membership base.  Expanding our membership will enhance the cooperative's purchasing power in the PBM industry, pairing our great value with even better pricing.

Sugden comes to us with many years of experience in the health care industry.  Most recently, he was the National VP of Broker Strategy and Development with FlagShipSales RX, where he was responsible for developing a national broker distribution network. Prior to that, he held sales leadership roles with United Healthcare and Humana.

We look forward to growing with him.

DrugsA person's chances of developing Alzheimer's reaches 50% by age 85, but new research shows that those diagnosed later in life will face a less aggressive form of the disease.  These new findings suggest that the annual cost of the disease, which is currently $200B, may not rise as quickly as projected.  It is projected to reach $1T by 2050, but may not be quite that catastrophic.  Findings will also influence the age of people recruited for clinical trials.  (7/24)  Full Story

HealthDayA little weight loss can have a big impact, according to recent research.  Even a modest weight loss - in this case an average of 14 pounds - can reduce a person's risk of diabetes by 58%.  Additionally, even if the weight is regained, that person will experience health benefits from the original weight loss for a decade.  (8/2)  Full Story

Health Policy Matters
The Hill.  Generic drugs have saved Americans $1.7T between 2002-2012, and $193B in 2011 alone.  Savings will continue to increase with President Obama's health care law, which allows generics to compete with biologics (generic versions are known as biosimilars).   (Baker, 8/2)  Full Story
