Can a company legally persuade an employee to stay on their parents' health insurance plan?
According to this article from Kaiser Health News:
"As long as a company's guidelines are clearly spelled out and applied consistently, experts say, a company can provide financial incentives to encourage workers who have the possibility of coverage elsewhere to take it; the company could even decide that such workers were not eligible for the company's plan."

The Seattle Times. Alameda County, located in California, is holding a meeting to decide whether or not pharmaceutical companies should be held responsible for properly disposing of its citizens' unused or expired drugs. If they go through with it, it will be the first of its kind and may prompt other counties in the nation to follow their lead. (Nirappil, 7/25) Full story

The New York Times. In parts of eastern and southern Africa there is a growing drug resistance to AIDS medication. Drug resistant viral strands in those areas range between 3 - 7.4% of all strands of the virus. (McNeil, 7/23) Full story

Fox News. Tuberculosis (TB) is another disease that's been in the news lately due to an alarmingly high number of drug resistant cases. A new cocktail of 3 drugs is showing hope, though. In studies, the cocktail is eliminating 99% of TB bacteria in patients in under 2 weeks. (7/24) Full Story

Drug Store News. The FDA has approved the drug Kyprolis (carfilzomib) from Onyx Pharmaceuticals. Kyprolis will be available for patients with multiple myeloma who aren't responding to other available medications. (MDearment, 7/23) Full Story

Philly Pharma. A study by Pfizer failed to help the 1,100 patients involved, who have mild to moderate Alzheimer's. The study tested out an injected drug meant to slow cognitive and functional decline, yet failed to do so. (Johnson, 7/24) Full Story

Time. The New York Board of Health is set to vote on the city's soda ban September 13. The ban would no longer allow restaurants or food carts to sell sugary drinks in sizes larger than 16oz, but wouldn't apply to drinks with more than 50% milk or 70% fruit juice. (7/24) Full story
