Supreme Court Upholds Affordable Care Act

 

Yesterday it was released that the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act. What does this mean for you as a member of the cooperative?  Although it doesn't lead to any major changes concerning pharmacy benefits in the immediate future, National CooperativeRx will continue to act in your best interest, and to keep you aware of the changing laws.  If you ever have questions that you can't find the answers to, please contact us and we'll work with you to answer them.

News You Can Use

Time.  More good news about coffee has just been released.  According to recent studies, drinking two 8-oz. cups of coffee per day correlated with an 11% reduction in heart risk.  Too much coffee, however, is still bad for you.  More than 5 cups a day was linked to an increased risk. Health Policy Matters
Business WeekCongress has passed an FDA bill that is designed to "increase inspections of foreign drug factories, while also speeding approvals of new drugs at home."  President Barack Obama is expected to sign it into law within days.  (Perrone, 6/26)  Full Story

USA Today.  The FDA has approved the first weight loss drug in over a decade.  Lorcaserin, to be sold as Belviq, is a weight loss drug produced by Arena Pharmaceuticals.  The drug was approved for obese patients, or overweight patients with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure.  The drug works by interacting with chemicals in the brain to create a feeling of fullness.  (Hellmich, 6/27)  Full story
