Annual Member Meeting April 25

Our Annual Member Meeting, held this past Wednesday in Madison, WI, received great praise from the attendees who filled out surveys after the event.

Paul Meyer, our Board Chair and COO of the Alliance, kicked off the meeting by welcoming the 31 groups who joined the cooperative in 2011, and the 16 additional groups who have joined in 2012.  Together, these 47 groups represent 48,874 new participants.

Greg Horstman, CEO of National CooperativeRx, thanked the Board Members, the staff, and all members of National CooperativeRx for helping to grow the cooperative.  Horstman also reviewed the strong financial accomplishments of the cooperative over the past 5 years.  To view the Annual Report, click here.

Mr. Kim Slocum of KDS Consulting was the keynote speaker for the event, with attendees describing his Strategic Design for Your Drug Benefit Plan presentation as "excellent," "informative," and "dynamic and knowledgeable."

Following Slocum, Wayne Salverda of National CooperativeRx presented Pharmacy Plan Design and reviewed initiatives the cooperative took in 2011, such as a mailing to increase generic utilization, and the positive results from those campaigns.

Lastly, Lida Andrews from CVS Caremark presented Specialty Pharmacy Management.  Andrews went in-depth on specialty drugs and the complexity of biologic products, along with insight as to what we can expect to see coming out of the pharmaceutical pipeline within the next few years.

Whether or not you were able to attend, we'd appreciate to hear your feedback on how the cooperative is doing.  If you're a Member, Agent or TPA associated with National CooperativeRx, please take a moment to fill out a short survey.  We'll use the results to guarantee that next year's meeting, along with the future of the cooperative, are aligned with your goals and vision.

Please click here to take the survey.  Your feedback is very important to us.

Thank you, from your staff at National CooperativeRx.

Health Policy Matters

Kaiser Health News.  Some states are considering limiting the amount a patient pays when visiting a physical therapist.  Many insurance plans have patients paying as much for a physical therapy session as they would for a visit to a specialist (such as a neurosurgeon).  Most physical therapists aren't doctors, however, and having patients pay a high co-pay each time they go to therapy can get expensive when they're going multiple times per week.  Most insurers are opposing the legislation.  (Appleby, 4/22)  Full story
