International Foundation.  Mail-service pharmacies, popular for their 90-day prescriptions and convenience, have now been shown to have greater adherence rates by people using them versus brick-and-mortar pharmacies for cholesterol prescriptions. (7/25) Full story

CBS.  Don't expect to see the heart flutter drug Multaq for much longer.  The FDA recently warned doctors that it can double the risk of heart flutters- the condition it was meant to prevent. (7/22) Full story  

 

American Pharmacists Association. Older adults and children under the age of 5 are hospitalized for influenza more often than other age groups, demonstrating the need for communities and health care providers to increase the number of young children getting vaccinated. Yahoo! Finance. Generics saved the U.S. health care system more than $824 billion from 2000 through 2009.  As 7 of the top 20 drugs go generic within the next 14 months, savings will be about $1 billion every three days. (7/25)  Full story

Health Policy Matters

Kaiser Health News. National health care spending grew at 3.9% last year- the slowest rate ever- due to Americans losing their jobs and not seeking health care.  That will soon change when the federal health law gives insurance to an extra 30M Americans, almost doubling the amount spent on health care.
