AARP. Antidepressants bring in over $10B a year in the United States, and over one in ten people use them, yet psychologists are still unsure if they're any more effective than a placebo. (Jaret, 5/7) Full story

| Fox. Data companies buy data from pharmacies to see which doctors are prescribing what medications, and then sell that data to drug makers for marketing purposes. American Medical News. A recent study found that if doctors were more conservative in prescribing drugs, it would lead to lower health care costs, fewer patient visits caused by adverse drug effects and safer treatment. (Krupa, 6/27) Full story

CBS. The United States is different from many other countries in that we don't practice controlled drug pricing. Part of the philosophy is that controlled pricing would hurt R&D and innovation, yet a study suggests that might not be true. (Edwards, 6/28) Full story

America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP). If a drug maker fails to warn consumers of the possible side effects of their products, the consumer can sue them, right? Not anymore. If a generic drug maker copies the warning on the label of the brand-name equivalent, the Supreme Court has ruled that it can't be held responsible. (6/24) Full article

AARP. A new bill would allow American pharmacies and wholesalers to buy their drugs from Canada, with potential savings of $19B. (Barry, 5/30) Full story
