9/11 ANNIVERSARY TUESDAY
It's hard to believe that next Tuesday it will have been been 11 years since the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Towers. I guess each of us will always remember where we were and what we were doing on that infamous day. There has never been another event that affected so many different areas of our lives. The security that now must exist in airports, as well as buildings and even sports events has forever changed our lifestyle. On Tuesday, take a moment to remember the 3,497 people who died in those attacks, including the brave passengers and crew of United Flight 93 that fought back and crashed the plane in Shanksville, PA. You can join with others in remembering by attending a special ceremony at the Riverside Theatre. You'll find the information in a post below.
TO SHOW YOU REMEMBER, FLY YOUR FLAG!
I also encourage you to remember the common thread and unity that existed in this country following the attacks. We were all proud Americans...still are... and the flag was flying just about everywhere. People...strangers... were more supportive, kinder, and more generous as communities pulled together in search of comfort and understanding even in the face of uncertainty as we anticipated future attacks. People flocked to their places of worship and the sale of the American flag was surely on the rise. As is so often the case after a tragedy, we put our best foot forward and the finest attributes of individuals and communities were on full display for all to see. Let's restore some of that spirit Tuesday. Let the world see that our flag is still flying high!
A SPECIAL VIDEO
Please check out the video below that a friend shared with me this week. It is a special rendition of 'our' Star Spangled Banner. My sentiments reflect hers as she stated, "I would have never thought I would forward our National Anthem being sung by a 'hard-rock' group." This band sings an updated version that will knock your socks off ... a Navy vet sings the lead. No matter what you are anticipating, give it a listen and see for yourself.
Now seems as good a time as any to say a sincere thank you to each of my FLASHERS for your continued support! You are greatly appreciated!

CHUCKLE OF THE WEEK
A couple drove down a country road for several miles, not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an argument and neither of them wanted to concede their position. As they passed a barnyard of mules, goats, and pigs, the husband asked "Relatives of yours?" "Yes," the wife replied, "in-laws."

CRAIGSLIST WARNING!
Craigslist, the online classified ad service that has over 50 million users has begun posting warnings on its site. Apparently, there exists victims of scams. One of the more common ones is that a buyer will overpay for an item, then immediately claim it was a mistake and ask the seller to refund the difference. Many sellers have done this only to learn that the buyer's check has bounced. This happened twice to my son when he was trying to sell a piece of furniture. Fortunately he did not fall for it. So... just always be careful or better yet...try out our FLASH Bulletin Board. Send us an email.

COMEDY ZONE @ RIVERSIDE THEATRE This Weekend September 7th & 8th SHOWTIMES AT 7:30 and 9:30 $18 EACH JOHN CHARLES
John Charles, a thirty-something with a penchant for big ideas and broken relationships, brings his own signature brand of slacker- chic mentality to his comedy performances. Audiences wail with laughter at J.C.'s lament of lost love and new hope told through a smooth blend of self-deprecating introspection and high-octane revelations.
JODY KERNS Jody Kerns entertains with a wry, homespun look at the foibles of modern life including growing up on a farm, marriage and raising children. Jody happily customizes her material for the audience, squeaky-clean for conventions and slightly naughty for those who prefer a spicier show. Her highly original material puts a down home country girl spin, on the celebration of life, love and laughter.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE VERO BEACH ART CLUB! The Vero Beach Art Club's Under the Oaks Fine Art & Craft Show was just voted by Sunshine Artist Magazine to be 56th in the top 200 shows in the entire nation. Each year the Under the Oaks show has made this list, but jumped higher up on the list this year. This vote is more valuable and prestigious to the show's reputation because it is voted on by the artists on several levels. The first level is about the friendliness and conscientious support of the show's staff, but secondly on the high sales the artists experience as compared to other shows where they may be exhibitors. Other factors include the ease of the show, the community and the attendees who visit. The 62nd Annual Under the Oaks Fine Art Show will be held March 8-10, 2013. |

FRIGHTENING STATISTIC !
"Turn that noise down!" If you have ever said that to your child, (and what parent hasn't?) this will be of interest to you. Did you know that 1 in 5 kids show signs of hearing loss due to iPods?! Trisha Mitchell, Program Coordinator for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services of the Treasure Coast, has put together a program called Dangerous Decibels. Kits for the program can be purchased by schools to work with the kids as science experiments. For those schools that do not have the kits, Ms. Mitchell is available to come to schools to present a 30-45 minute program that includes science boards, a Power Point presentation, and a mannequin named "TODD." TODD stands for "Turn Off Dangerous Decibels." TODD is wired to measure decibels on iPods/mp3players in order to help the children understand the damage they might be doing to their hearing. To order a kit or to arrange for Ms. Mitchell to visit a school, contact her at 772-334-2233 or Trishamitchell@dhhstc.org.

FORBES LIST OF HIGHEST PAID CELEBRITIES

It didn't surprise us that Oprah Winfrey is again number one on this list, earning a total S165 million this past year. However, we were surprised by most of the others who made the list of the top 21 (...21 because there was a tie for the 20th spot at $58 million). We were also amazed at the occupations,...only two actors, one female singer and two athletes! The biggest shock was Glen Beck (pictured) at #11, who was fired by the FOX network and still earned a whopping $80 million! To see the slideshow of the entire list, Click Here.

Bank of America Supports IR Habitat with a $3,000 Donation that was presented by the Banking Center Manager, Jim McDonough. The check had an extra special meaning because one of the bank's most highly regarded employees will soon begin work on her own Habitat home.
McDonough and Assistant Manager April Lesperance joined Habitat CEO Andy Bowler and Grant coordinator Robin Benjouali at Habitat's Burnham Center offices Aug. 30. Also present was BOA teller Jessica Ribera and her daughters, Mariah, 13, and Dalylah, 5. Jessica has completed her Sweat Equity requirement and is looking forward, with great anticipation, to the start of construction on her own Habitat home.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK
Butterscotch Banana Cake with Caramel Cream Cheese Frosting
1-Cup Superfine Sugar
1-Cup banana flesh, chopped into 2cm pieces
1 tbsp unsalted butter
2 tsp vanilla extract
3/4 Cup sunflower oil
2 large eggs
150g plain flour
5 Tbsp spelt, rye or wholemeal flour
2 level tsp mixed spice
2 level tsp baking powder
˝ level tsp bicarbonate of soda
1/4 Cup plain yoghurt
Butter an 8" square tin and line the base with non-stick baking paper. Tip 2/3 Cup of the caster sugar into a frying pan with 2 tbsp water, bring to the boil, then cook over a high heat until the sugar turns to a dark reddish caramel. Add the banana pieces, butter and vanilla, and simmer until the bananas break up in the caramel and the mixture is thick.
Spoon on to a plate and leave to cool. Beat the remaining 1/3 Cup sugar with the oil and eggs until thick and slightly aerated, then beat in the bananas and the yoghurt. Sift the flours, spice, baking powder and soda together two or three times (throwing the bran back in), then fold this through the banana mixture.
Spoon the mixture into the tin, heat the oven to 350 and bake for about 50 minutes or until a skewer inserted comes out clean.
