HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
SUNDAY, MAY 13th
We know all Mothers aren't perfect, but some of them come pretty close. Whether yours is the former or the latter, we think this little sign says a lot. If you're lucky enough to still have your Mom, do let her know how much she means to you. That will mean more than any gift. And if you're a Mom yourself, remember that you wouldn't be celebrating this special day without your children, so it's a good time to let them know how much they mean to you as well. In this issue, you will find several ideas to help you celebrate, so do enjoy this special day AND make the most out of the gift your Mom gave you and live each day of your life to the fullest!!!
We hope you have picked up your copy of our printed calendar for MAY. If not, stop by the mall tonight for 'Mom's Night Out' and come look for our table. We love meeting our FLASHERS in person!

 TRICK TO FULLER LIPS
This is a quick little tip that will undoubtedly make your lips appear fuller! You add dimension by playing with shadows + light. If you want to bring a feature forward, you make it lighter, and if you want to push something back, you shade it darker. So to make the lips appear more voluminous, simply outline the top lip + the philtrum (the two midline grooves that run from the top of the lip to the nose) to highlight it. It's a lot safer and less expensive than fillers and - Start by tracing the two lines of your philtrum from your nose to your upper lip. Then trace the cupid's bow (the area between the lines) and from each point to the outer corners. Only line the upper lip (leaving the lower lip natural).
- Lightly blend the line with your finger to make it undetectable but enough to still do its job.
- Finish by filling in your entire lips with a color/finish of your choice. We used Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Rhubarb but you can use a liner + lipstick, just lipstick, just gloss or a tinted lip balm... whatever you are in the mood for that day!

BOTOX OR NOT? YOU DECIDE
Botox, the popular cosmetic injection used to fight facial wrinkles, is made of an extremely toxic protein called Botulinum toxin. Botox works by temporarily paralyzing muscles that cause wrinkles. That means no unsightly wrinkles, but also no moving those muscles at all - which could have more significant consequences than simply looking frozen. Researcher Joshua Davis, a psychologist at Barnard College in New York, thinks that facial expressions themselves may influence emotional experiences, so a person with a limited ability to make facial expressions may also have a limited ability to feel emotions. "With Botox, a person can respond otherwise normally to an emotional event, (such as a sad movie scene), but will have less movement in the facial muscles that have been injected, and therefore less feedback to the brain," he said. The findings tie into an idea suggested more than a century ago that feedback from facial expressions to the brain can influence the experience of emotions. It's been proven that the simple act of smiling, for example, can help make you feel happy, while frowning can bring down your mood. (FLASH wonders if that means if you remove forehead frown wrinkles, but not smile wrinkles, will you be happy all the time?

HOW MUCH TO TIP?
Tipping is a gray area for many of us, so here's a handy website that offers some guidelines. From hair stylists to pet groomers and catered affairs to 'take out,' we think you will find it helpful. It also has some other interesting suggestions. For example If he's done a good job, don't reduce your waiter's tip for a bad meal. He has no control over the kitchen staff. Also, hotel maids can change daily, so leave a small tip each day rather than at the end of your stay. To learn more, Click Here .
NOTE: These guidelines are for the U.S. Next week FLASH will have tips for international travel. In some countries, tipping may even be offensive!

HEALTH TIP
SLEEP BETTER
According to Pharmacy Professor Jan Engle of the University of Illinois, many people unknowingly take bedtime pain relievers that contain caffeine. Excedrin has 65 milligrams of caffeine per tablet, so two of those have as much as a cup of coffee. Bayer Select Maximum Strength Headache Pain Relief has 65.4 mg and Midol may have up to 60mg. Some nasal sprays also contain caffeine. Check the label. If a pill contains caffeine, it will be listed as an active ingredient.

Five Ways to Use Eggshells in Your Garden
1. Add crushed eggshells to the bottom of planting holes to make sure your plants have a steady source of calcium. As the eggshells break down, they'll nourish the soil and your plants.
2. Use eggshells as pots for starting plants from seed. (You can label the shell with a Sharpie pen.) Then plant the seedling, "pot" and all, into the garden later.
3. Use crushed eggshells to deter slugs, snails, and cutworms. All three of these pests have soft undersides, and dislike slithering across anything sharp. Crushed eggshells, may help deter these pests.
4. Add them to the compost pile where they'll add calcium to your finished compost.
5. If you are feeding birds in your yard, crush up the eggshells and add them to a dish near the feeder. Female birds, particularly those who are getting ready to lay eggs or recently finished laying, require extra calcium and will appreciate it!
NOTE:No matter how you want to use them, be sure to rinse the shells out well before using them in the garden.
