TAXES ARE DUE THIS MONDAY!
Well, that can be a depressing thought. Since FLASH's mission is to not feature  'depressing' news, I am left with the challenge to make our FLASHERS laugh in the face of taxes!  So, this week's note will actually be compiled of a few snippets that will hopefully make you chuckle. Share them with others this weekend and spread some cheer  to what could otherwise be a  'downer' of a weekend that leaves you drowning in a sea of paperwork!

*  A penny saved is a government oversight.
* Did you ever notice: When you put the 2 words 'The' and 'IRS'
   together it spells 'THEIRS'?
* Why does a slight tax increase cost you two hundred dollars and a
substantial tax cut save you thirty cents?
* Isn't it appropriate that the month of the tax begins with April
Fool's Day and ends with cries of 'May Day!'

Tax Collector: Why don't you pay your taxes with a smile?
Taxpayer:  I'd love to, but you insist on money!

A businessman was near death and made arrangements for his remains to be sent to the Internal Revenue Service with the following note:  "Now you have it all."

And...I believe that 'Says it all.' Keep Smiling! If you planned ahead and the taxes are done, then reward yourself and get out and enjoy some of the fun events this week. A few of the highlights include: The Hibiscus Festival, The opening of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, The Comedy Zone, Fairy Festival at McKee Gardens, Concert at Sebastian Riverfront Park and more! ENJOY!

MONEY TIP

MAKE A 50/30/20 BUDGET

This formula for a budget comes from Liz Weston, author of THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF MONEY. She says it's not magic, so don't expect it to lift you out of the red within days, but it is a guide to work toward. It's also a good plan for college students or young adults going out on their own for the first time. Here are the basics:

50 percent of your after-tax income is for things you have to shell out for, like shelter, transportation, insurance, groceries, minimum loan repayments, and utilities.

30 percent of your after-tax income is for fun things, vacations, trips to the movies, etc. Basically, it's for all of the things you want to buy.

20 percent of your after-tax income should be for retirement savings, an emergency fund, and any loan payments above the minimum. Make these transfers automatic so you won't see (or spend) the money.

April 12th - May 6th 2012
OPENS TONIGHT!
"Tragedy tomorrow, comedy tonight!" Broadway's greatest farce is light fast-paced, witty, irreverent and one of the funniest musicals ever written. Comedy reigns supreme when a thoroughly disarming slave named Pseudolus schemes to gain his freedom by helping his master's son get the girl he desires. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, this hilarious slapstick farce is filled with outrageous puns and gags that will keep you laughing all the way home! The Unlikely Canary in the Housing Market Coal Mine:

The "As Is" Contract

The question of whether or not the housing market is finally improving has been on the lips of American homeowners ever since the bubble burst in 2005. Info bits and data points periodically emerge to suggest trending, and of late, those standard barometers have indicated a significant increase in market activity. We could examine traditional indicators such as industry hiring, unit sales, dollar volume closed, or absorption rate, however, another rather unorthodox measure of existing market conditions has also recently emerged in the form of the "as is" contract. For the price of an inspection and a survey, some buyers have discovered that the "as is" contract provides a surprisingly useful competitive advantage.

Our agents are increasingly finding buyers who truly love a home, but just need a little more time to secure funding, to decide between two great properties or just to meticulously survey the home. Rather than risk losing the target property, the buyers draft an "as is" contract, take a deep breath and then make their final decision at their own pace.

That buyers are employing the "as is" contract to maximize leverage is probably not surprising. However, what is somewhat surprising is that the reason these people are using the "as is" contract is because they are legitimately afraid that another buyer might swoop in and steal "their deal". All of this would suggest that the prolonged, "I'll get around to making my low ball offer when I am darn well ready" buyer's market, might finally be entering its twilight.

MANICURES AND PEDICURES FOR MEN?
It's not un-masculine (Is that a word?) for a man to get a manicure or pedicure for their hands and feet and the women in your life will notice it! In fact, this practice is much more important for men, than for women because men's nails grow faster than women, men's nails are more prone to be dirty because of the level of work they do, and they can't cover them up with colored polish so their cleanliness is even more visible. Dirty nails are a real 'turn-off' and having bad and untidy features can be detrimental to your overall image. During pedicures, dead skin is exfoliated, helping to diminish calluses that can lead to bigger problems. During both manicures and pedicures, the cuticles are cleaned up. Extremely simple and easy tips, if followed, can set new boundaries for the man of today. Make sure to cut, clean, shape and file your nails on a weekly basis. Applying any moisturizer gives them a clean shine and buffing your nails often is also a good practice.
shakeHEALTH TIP
ORANGE JUICE MAY LOWER CHOLESTEROL

Living in Indian River County, we love orange juice and the REAL AGE website has given us another reason to enjoy the beverage. OJ manufacturers are doing everything they can to make their health food more appealing -- including fortifying their juice with plant-derived cholesterol-busting compounds known as phytosterols. A review of 84 scientific studies revealed that getting 2 grams of phytosterols a day - the amount in a couple  of 8-ounce glasses of sterol-fortified OJ -- could help lower harmful LDL levels by more than 8 percent. Check with your doctor first regarding whether citrus will interact with any of your medications. If it does, look for sterol-fortified margarine, milk, soy milk, cheese, or breads instead.

MEN TAKE MORE RISKS THAN WOMEN
(Is anyone surprised?)
A 2011 study from the University of California showed that men and women react differently in decision making when they are under stress. Men responded to stress by making riskier decisions, while the women took fewer risks. The study was based on the real-life task of investing and making trades. Out of 27,000 investors, men made 45% more trades on their portfolios. The high trading rates led to taking greater risks, causing male investors to lose more value on their portfolios than female investors.

A FUN & EASY CENTERPIECE IDEA!

This inexpensive idea is a great way to recycle your wine bottles.  Why not use them  as flower vases? Grouping 3 or more together will make a great centerpiece. We did this a couple of weeks ago for my mother's birthday. The tall bottles were just perfect for supporting the heavy sunflowers . We loved this wine with its pretty floral labels too! There are some great wine labels out there these days that will almost allow you to customize your centerpiece with your party's theme. Since I mentioned my mother, now is a great time to give a 'Shout Out' to her. My Mom, AKA Sunshine! She is an amazing lady and is the best research assistant FLASH could ever have. She is the one behind the scenes each week who is responsible for bringing so much of the great information to you each Thursday! I'm a lucky gal in many ways but having her as a Mom...well, that makes me the luckiest! :)
