BINDERS TO ORGANIZE
Some FLASHERS might already be aware of this great tip. Purchase several decorative binders to help you eliminate paper clutter and to help you become more organized in 2012. You can have separate binders for all kinds of things. The suggestions pictured here are for bills, to file, food planner, and receipts. Binders are also a super convenient and simple way to file your bank statements and easily keep them in chronological order. Binders also make a great recipe file. You can use dividers for the different food categories. This new recipe file will easily accommodate the 8 1/2 x 11 recipes that you print from the computer.

AUDREY CHERIN
IS A POSITIVE PERSON
Spotlighting Positive People in our community is something that we thoroughly enjoy doing at FLASH and when we receive a nomination to spotlight one of our youth...well, it brings an extra dose of joy! Such is the case this week. Audrey Cherin is the daughter of Luciano and Teresa Cherin and sister to older brother Adrian. She is an active member of the senior class at Indian River Charter High School where she is a Student Council, Representative, Secretary of Key Club, Assistant Secretary & Treasurer of Homebase, and a ballet performer in the Visual & Performing Arts Academy. Her involvement doesn't end there. She is also quite active in our community with Youth in Action, Habitat for Humanity, Kiwanis, and Relay for Life to name only a few. This extensive involvement has not interfered with her studies as she has been on the AB Honor Roll for three consecutive years. She developed a love for Chemistry last year when she took an honors chemistry class. She became enthused over the possibilities, experiments and discoveries that it offers and she plans to pursue Chemistry as her major at Stetson University in the fall.
When asked what motivates you to give so much of yourself to different causes, Audrey answered "Viewing the positive impact of the final product of my efforts gives me an incredible feeling of accomplishment unlike anything else. I love being a leader and coordinating events, fundraisers, making flyers, being involved, and keeping my peers informed about upcoming community and school events." Who inspires her? "People who stay true to their moral values and maintain a healthy, positive life." Audrey seems wise beyond her years and we suspect that her vast involvement in her extracurricular activities has provided an education outside of the classroom that has only aided in developing such a well-rounded young lady! Thank you for all that you do Audrey and for serving as an inspiration to the rest of us!

FISHING TIP
Check out the surf fishing instruction opportunity offered on our calendar on January 25th by the City of Vero Beach.
Fishing the Treasure Cost in January presents different obstacles that Floridian's are not accustomed. Florida's winter seems to target January and the cooler weather has an impact on our fish. It tends to make them more sluggish and their reaction to your bait can be delayed. Anglers should head for deeper water and try working bait slower than usual. This will hopefully help you enjoy your day on the water.
For additional information on licenses, boating registration, fishing regulations and more visit The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission or call (772) 778-5094. Things you can find out include info like this.
- Several grouper including gag, red, black and more closed in Atlantic state waters Jan. 1. Will reopen May 1.
- Spotted Seatrout season opened in South Florida Jan. 1.
- Sharks: The recreational and commercial harvest of tiger sharks and great, scalloped and smooth hammerhead sharks is prohibited in state waters starting Jan. 1, 2012.
Here is the fishing chart for the remainder of the month. The blacker the fish - The better the day for fishing!

THAT'S CLEVERThis is a great idea for turning your picnic table, or regular table for that matter, into a unique party table! The rectangular galvanized container pictured here is used as a wine cooler. You could also use a round galvanized tub that you could easily lift in and out. Either container could be used as a cooler for soft drinks, ice cream for a sundae bar, a planter for flowers or greenery. It could also be used as the perfect container for your child's party favor bags. You are only limited by your imagination!

A NEW 'FUN'DRAISER
HELIDROP FEBRUARY 11, 2012 @ 4:30 - 10:00 First Annual Heli-Drop Ball Bash & BBQ to benefit Youth Guidance. This event will kick off at the Vero Beach Sports Village with a raucous City vs. County kickball game. Immediately following the game, 750 pre-sold numbered golf balls will be dropped onto the cleared field from a helicopter. There will be $10,000 in prizes based on the number of balls sold. Following the drop, all attendees are invited to attend an on-site party which includes a tasty Bono's BBQ dinner and entertainment by popular local band Crooked Creek until 10:00 p.m. Be a "CHOPPER CHAMP" by you or your business selling 10 balls @ $100/each or two for just $150. All "CHOPPER CHAMPS" will receive 2 complimentary general admission tickets to the Heli-Drop Ball Bash & BBQ. ($50 value!) We encourage all FLASHERS to jump on board with this great fundraiser. If you can't swing the entire cost of a golf ball, why not get together with some friends and purchase golf balls and share the prize money. Contact Barbara Schlitt Ford for tickets or for more information. bford@ircgov.com or 772-770-5040 |
LIGHTEN UP YOUR KEY CHAIN!
Does your car key share a chain with a dozen or more other keys? That's a pretty heavy load hanging off the car key when it's in the ignition. The weight, combined with bouncing while you drive, can wear out the tumblers inside the ignition and eventually lead to ignition switch failure. To add years of service to your ignition switch, purchase a lightweight key chain that allows you to separate your ignition key from the others. Drive with only the ignition key in your ignition. If your ignition key "sticks" when you try to turn on the car, it's a warning that your ignition switch is about to fail. Replace it before you get stranded. (NOTE: This happened to one of our Flashers, so we know it's true!)

At this meeting the program will be explained, applications will be given out, and questions will be answered. HEALTH TIP
A DOSE OF COCOA!
With our cooler temperatures, we think you're going to love this tip! A study from Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital found that the flavanols in cocoa improve blood flow to the brain and may help prevent stroke and dementia. Drinking only a cup a day for one or two weeks showed a significant increase in brain blood flow. Unfortunately, putting a marshmallow on top was not mentioned!

SAVINGS TIP
SELL YOUR UNWANTED GIFT CARDS
Over the holidays chances are you may have received a gift card. Now, there is also a good chance that you may have received a gift card to a place of business that you do not care to patronize. Or perhaps you know it is unlikely that you will get around to redeeming it. If either is the case, then you may want to consider selling your card. That way you will get something...rather than nothing. Below is a chart we found of online sites that will purchase your card. Just make sure that you shop around before committing. All of the sites do not pay the same percentage for a card.
