 MERRY CHRISTMAS FLASHERS!
What exactly does that mean? Last year we printed a post that a fellow FLASHER emailed us. It basically said that as Christians we say 'Merry Christmas'. For those who practice a different religion we certainly do not mean any disrespect and our hope is that you will always hear the sincerity of our wish in the voice of the religion that you practice. Christmas carries a message of peace, hope, joy and unity. That message is universal, making as much sense to Christians as to Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and other believers. So with that in mind here is our top 10 'wish list' for you.
1) We hope each one of you will enjoy time spent with family and friends! 2) We hope that you find greatness in the simplest of things. 3) We hope that you will always try to make tomorrow better than today. 4) We hope that you will always be patient and kind to others. 5) We hope you will make the time to give back and volunteer in 2012. 6) We hope you will forgive and mend a broken relationship. 7) We wish you moments that make you laugh so hard you stomach hurts. 8) We hope you never get discouraged and give up on anything you want. 9) We hope you take steps to a healthier you in 2012. 10) We hope the spirit of Christmas stays with you all year long.

HELPFUL TIPS FOR RECYCLING THIS HOLIDAY SEASON!
Indian River County Solid Waste Disposal District encourages residents to think "green" and live "green" this holiday season by recycling and reusing many of the common waste items that are typically in abundance this time of year. Packing peanuts, those little styrofoam pieces that are used as packing material in boxes, can be reused at any Pak Mail, UPS Store, or at the KIRB Reuse Center located in the Indian River Mall. Styrofoam packaging from large electronics and appliances can be recycled at any of the five Customer Convenience Centers or the Main Landfill. Holiday wrapping paper can be recycled with your newspaper and left curbside in your recycling bin. Christmas trees (free of decorations) will be picked up curbside with regular paid yard debris services or can be taken to one of the Convenience Centers or Main Landfill.

Teenage baseball enthusiasts from across Indian River County are going into extra innings to help one of their own with a marathon baseball fundraiser scheduled for 9 a.m., January 15, 2012 at Bob Summers Field, 3451 Indian River Drive East, Vero Beach. Baseball players between the ages of 13 and 17 are invited to help raise money for the family of Brian Simpson, the Vero Beach resident who was tragically murdered in November after walking in on two men burglarizing his home. Simpson is survived by his wife of 19 years, Kristen, and two children, 15-year-old Samantha and 14-year-old Scott, who is a member of the Treasure Coast Hurricanes Travel Baseball Team, Gifford Middle School Baseball Team and Vero Beach Junior Baseball League. For $15 players can pre-register to play three innings of baseball. Pre-registration will begin December 19 and run through January 13. Same day registration will be available on a limited basis at $5 per inning as available. Additional opportunities to raise money for the family through concessions and raffles will also be offered throughout the day. HEALTH TIP
THE HOLIDAY HEART SYNDROME
Around this time of year, doctors report seeing a spike in erratic heartbeats-dubbed "holiday heart syndrome." It is more common among people who usually aren't heavy drinkers but drink in excess for a short time. "Alcohol may be toxic to enough cardiac cells that it disrupts the coordination required to maintain a normal heart rate," says Kenneth Mukamal, an internist at Beth IsraelDeaconess Medical Center, in Boston. "Women should have no more than three drinks on any occasion or a total of seven per week," says Michael Weaver, an associate professor of internal medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine.
