 ONE (1)
DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THE LONELIEST NUMBER!
There are four unique dates this year that celebrate the power of 1. Tomorrow will be 11/11/11. All weddings and births that take place tomorrow will be easy ones to always remember! No excuses! The other three dates were: 1/1/11, 1/11/11, and 11/1/11. Now for another little bit of trivia you can impress others with when looking for conversational topics... This year, if you take the last two digits of the year you were born and the age you will be on your birthday this year, the result will add up to 111 for everyone. Go ahead...check it out! We're right, aren't we? Isn't that amazing? Again... all ones. So, one last miracle of the number one. One, when shared can have enormous impact! Team FLASH has been working to clean up our email list over the last several weeks. No more bounces or undeliverables and we still have a subscriber base of 3,459. If each one of you would share FLASH with ONLY one (1) other person we would be nearly 7,000 strong! Oh the power of one! We do count on our FLASHERS to help us spread the word and we thank those of you who do so on a regular basis! Can we count on you 'one-derful' FLASHERS 'one' more time?

GREG HOLTAN

IS A POSITIVE PERSON
In 1980 Greg Holtan was one of the founding members of what is today the largest Kiwanis Aktion Club in the world. At that time there were 33 members; today there are nearly 150. The mission of Kiwanis Aktion Clubs is to provide opportunities for physically or mentally challenged adults to interact with the public and to socialize. Greg says that its most important goal is "to have fun".
Greg has been the Chairman of the Aktion Club for nearly twenty years and described some of their annual activities as follows:
- Annual participation in "Special Olympics";
- Halloween Dance - this year's was October 19th in conjunction with the St. Helen's Harvest Festival;
- The Snowflake Ball - This year's ball will be the 18th annual and will be on December 4 from 5-9 pm at the Vero Elks Lodge; and,
- Bowling Outings - the next one will be in January at Vero Bowl.
The Kiwanis Club of Vero-Treasure Coast continues to be a proud sponsor of the Aktion Club. As Kiwanis past president Lou Aprile says, "The most memorable part of being involved with the Aktion Club is to see the expressions of joy on the participants' faces".
For more information about the Aktion Club or other Kiwanis activities, go to our website www.verokiwanis.com. Donations to support Aktion Club activities can be sent to Vero Kiwanis PO Box 6381, Vero Beach, FL 32960. Indicate "Aktion Club" in the memo area. RIVERSIDE THEATRE
LAST WEEKEND TO CATCH BOEING BOEING
October 27th - November 13th 2011
This is your last chance to see the season's opening play at Riverside, Boeing-Boeing. This is a high-flying comedy that had London and Broadway audiences airborne with laughter. It opened at Riverside on October 27th and has been delighting audiences for the last couple of weeks. Bernard, a successful American architect living in a posh Paris apartment, has been deftly juggling three fiancées, each beautiful airline hostesses with frequent layovers in Paris. With a bit of assistance from his housekeeper, who plays a reluctant air-traffic controller, Bernard's carefully constructed timetable runs like clockwork until unexpected schedule changes bring all three to his apartment at the same time, and his "ideal life" unravels all in one nonstop night. Winner of the 2008 Tony Award for Best Play Revival, Boeing-Boeing has been called "the funniest play to hit Broadway in ages." Fasten your seat belts for an uproarious ride that will take you up, up and away! |

HEALTH TIP
THE DIRTIEST ITEM IN YOUR HOUSE?
Studies show that the average kitchen sponge contains up to a million more germs than a toilet seat! If you're not careful, those germs can make it onto your dishes, glasses and countertops! The best way to decontaminate it is also the easiest. Just rinse it, wring it out and microwave it for 60 seconds. The microwave will kill those nasty germs dead!

RESIDENTIAL ANTI-THEFT TIP
PROTECTING YOUR VALUABLES
BOTTOM LINE/PERSONAL interviewed a reformed burglar who stole over $70 million worth of jewelry during his career and spent 11 years in jail for doing so. The man warned that the master bedroom is the first place burglars look, saying that he used to spend 15 minutes or less in each house. Half that time was spent in this room checking the underwear drawer, under the mattress, high closet shelves, etc. He suggested that a better location is the garage or even the freezer, - someplace where a burglar is less likely to look. It may not be as convenient, but it might save you a lot of heartbreak as well.
