AMY BORSEY
 IS A POSITIVE PERSON
Flash has been spotlighting positive people for almost a year and a half. This is one of our favorite things that we do at FLASH. We have spotlighted philanthropists, students, volunteer extraordinaires, fallen military, and even Santa. Each one of these people has been nominated for various reasons. Today's nominee, Amy Borsey, was nominated by, Leah Blythe, one of her teachers at Indian River Charter High School. She was nominated for being exactly what this recognition implies...a Positive Person. Amy is a Junior at IRCHS and is one of five girls. Life dealt her a blow in 2009 that no child should have to endure. Amy's Mom passed away from congestive heart failure. The loss that is felt is unexplainable, but in Amy's own words, "The reason why I'm still going strong and staying positive is that, no matter what I do, or where I go, I have a peace of mind. I just can't be sad, or mad because that is not what life is about, it's about being happy and staying confident and being a leader, not a follower." Every day Amy is inspired by her Mom. Amy's words of advice? "Keep looking forward, don't dwell on your past. Even if you can't see your future, just keep pushing. So many blessings will come out of it." Amy has found peace in helping others and she enjoys showing love and compassion through her volunteering. She also thinks that volunteering is a great way to set an example for others. She hopes that those on the receiving end will want to become volunteers themselves when they recall the impact that one volunteer had on their life. When FLASH asked Amy if she had received any awards or recognition, she answered that, "No, I haven't received any awards or recognition, but that doesn't stop me." Now, if that isn't what volunteering is all about, then we don't know what is!
Amy enjoys writing, photography, and loves to try new things. She really enjoys children and gets great pleasure from making them smile and laugh. Amy hopes to attend a Florida college after she graduates. She isn't quite sure what field she wants to pursue yet, but is thinking about something in the medical field, music or photography. Amy, FLASH is proud of you and thanks you for the joy you bring to the lives of others. May God bless you and may you continue to be a positive influence on others and your community. You are an amazing young lady and inspire so many with cheerfulness and positive attitude! Keep it up!

HEALTH TIP
WHAT ARE OMEGA-3s?
We hear a lot these days about Omega-3s, so what are they? According to Mark Hyman, MD of the Ultra Wellness Center in Massachusetts, Omega-3s are fatty acids that are essential for our bodies to work normally. Because they are not made in the body, we have to get them from our diet or from supplements like fish oil capsules. Omega-3s have a number of health benefits including reducing inflammation throughout the body -- in the blood vessels, the joints, and elsewhere, as well as improving mental performance and memory function, and inhibiting blood clots that can cause stroke. Foods that contain Omega-3s include sardines (Three cans a week are recommended! I think I prefer the capsules!) or other fatty fish and eggs (- but only those eggs labeled "Omega 3" because it means that the chickens were fed only fish meal) and all un-roasted nuts, especially macadamia and walnuts.
WARNING: Omega-3 supplements may cause the blood to thin and cause excess bleeding, particularly in people taking anticoagulant drugs.

Trick to Jump-Start a Dead Battery!
If your battery terminals are corroded, crack open a can of cola and pour it directly onto the battery terminals. The acid in the cola will bubble away the corrosion, improving both your connection and the odds of a successful jump-start. Once you're home, run water over the battery to remove the cola residue and dry it with an old rag.
