SARAH MOSHER & JENNIFER STENBACK
Sarah Mosher Jennifer Stenback
POSITIVE PEOPLE
Sarah Mosher and Jennifer Stenback have been named Commended Students in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program which has earned them this week's Positive Person (People) title. Both girls are seniors at Indian River Charter High School. They are two of about 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation that are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2012 competition for National Merit Scholarships, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2012 competition by taking the 2010 Preliminary SAT. That is no small accomplishment and Team FLASH is happy to recognize these two young ladies this week for what they have achieved.

. ISN'T THAT CLEVER! You can change the look of a table or chair by modge podging a vintage map onto the surface. This is a simple and easy way to transform a ho-hum piece of furniture into one that you will want to display. Make sure you apply several coats of varnish to protect the surface. Team FLASH recommends Minwax Polycrylic in whatever sheen you prefer. This is a great varnish that doesn't yellow and allows water cleanup and a durable service once it is dry!

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2011
7:00 P.M. ~ Wachter Activities Center
This workshop is open to Saint Edward's families as well as prospective families interested in learning more about Saint Edward's financial aid program.
 | |
For Saint Edward's students, education is about the journey, not the test, and they enjoy an abundance of opportunities. Here All State Choral competitors (left to right) Sarah Lambert, Jamari Williams and Emily Salvador take a bow after scoring outstanding marks on the music theory and sight-singing portions of the competition.
|
Saint Edward's School is a community of teachers, parents and students who are interested in providing the richest education experience to motivated learners in pre-K - grade 12 from across the Treasure Coast. Keeping our class sizes small, our teacher-student ratio low and our curriculum the most enriching available, requires resources. One of those resources is our financial aid program. Did you know that the School offers more than $1 million a year in financial aid to qualified students? We do, and we invite you to attend a workshop on Applying for Financial Aid at Saint Edward's School. Join us on the 25th @ 7:00 p.m. in the Wachter Activities Center. For information and reservations, please call Pamela Zeuner at 772-492-2367 or email pzeuner@steds.org |

RIVERSIDE THEATRE
BOEING BOEING
October 27th - November 13th 2011
The curtain will rise on a new season at Riverside with Boeing-Boeing, the high-flying comedy that had London and Broadway audiences airborne with laughter. It is soon to land here at Riverside and you won't want to miss it. Bernard, a successful American architect living in a posh Paris apartment, has been deftly juggling three fiancées, each beautiful airline hostesses with frequent layovers in Paris. With a bit of assistance from his housekeeper, who plays a reluctant air-traffic controller, Bernard's carefully constructed timetable runs like clockwork until unexpected schedule changes bring all three to his apartment at the same time, and his "ideal life" unravels all in one nonstop night. Winner of the 2008 Tony Award for Best Play Revival, Boeing-Boeing has been called "the funniest play to hit Broadway in ages." Fasten your seat belts for an uproarious ride that will take you up, up and away! |

ON THE AUCTION BLOCK
Elizabeth Taylor's incredible collection of 269 pieces of jewelry is going on a world tour ending in New York with an auction by Christies in December. It was her wish that the pieces be auctioned for others to enjoy. The items to be auctioned include the 33.19 carat white diamond given to her in 1968 by then husband Richard Burton which is expected to sell for between $2.5 to $3.5 million alone. The entire collection is expected to be sold for around $30 million with a portion of the proceeds going to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.
AND SPEAKING OF JEWELRY....
DID YOU KNOW?
Most jewelry can be cleaned with a solution of dishwashing liquid and warm water using a soft toothbrush. However, according to Consumer Reports, water can damage pearls, opals and turquoise. It is best to clean these stones just by polishing with a soft dry cloth like chamois.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK
STUFFED SWEET POTATOES Ingredients: - 6 large sweet potatoes
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature, divided
- 6 tablespoons light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup toasted pecan pieces, divided
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup miniature marshmallows
Directions: - Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spread the pecans onto a baking sheet and place in preheated oven 5-7 minutes until fragrant. Shake the baking sheet halfway through baking so the nuts will toast evenly. Remove nuts from oven and set aside to cool completely. Turn the oven up to 400 degrees F.
- Wash the sweet potatoes, scrubbing them well to remove any dirt. With a fork, prick the sweet potatoes in a couple of spots and place them on a sheet pan. Bake for about 45 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center goes in easily. Remove from oven and let stand until cool enough to handle but still very warm.
- Cut potatoes in half lengthwise and push the ends towards the middle so it opens up. Scoop out flesh and place in medium bowl, being careful not to tear skin. Reserve skins.
- In a large bowl, mix 3tablespoons butter and brown sugar together until it's crumbly-looking. Add the cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, salt, and half of the pecans. Divide mixture in half. Add half of the mixture to the sweet potato flesh and fold in completely. Add the filling back to the potato skins and place on baking sheet.
- To the remaining brown sugar mixture, add 3 tablespoons butter and flour. Mix until crumbly looking. Top sweet potatoes generously with the brown sugar mixture and marshmallows and return to the oven. Bake for another 5-10 minutes, or until the marshmallow topping is golden brown.
