HAS YOUR BANK BEEN SOLD?

Chuck Whitlock of West Linn, Oregon trains police on fraud identification. He warns that all the recent sales and mergers of banks is attracting a new type of scammer. Customers are receiving official-looking letters instructing them to send credit card or mortgage payments to a new P.O. Box. If you receive such a letter, call your new bank to confirm that the communication is valid.

CREATE A SAFE KITCHEN

Kitchens are considered one of the most dangerous areas of a home for seniors. Many accidents and falls occur in the kitchen due to a range of common scenarios: cooking fires, grease and spills on the floor, reaching for objects, appliance or garbage disposal injuries and inappropriate objects placed in a microwave. (An Alzheimer patient started a fire by putting a frozen dinner in the oven without removing it from the box.) Many caregivers of individuals suffering from cognitive disorders or conditions will attest to the potential possibility of harming oneself with the darnedest things. Keeping the kitchen a safe and secure environment for the elderly isn't always easy, but just as new parents baby-proof their home, think of this as senior-proofing and remove or disconnect potentially hazardous items.

We know you can't always be there to monitor the patient's behavior.

Let us help care for a loved one!

        BRING UNWELCOME GUESTS...THE MOSQUITO

CALL FOR SPRAYING AFTER YOU TAKE PRECAUTION

MOSQUITO

Are you dreading the thought of walking outside because you don't have an ample supply of anti-itch ointment to soothe those multiple bites?  Below are numbers you can call to requests spraying in your area. You will also find tips to help you say adieu to those pesky mosquitoes!

Indian River Mosquito Control District: (772) 562-2393

ST.Lucie County Mosquito Control District: (772)-462-1692

               REMINDER TIPS - MOSQUITO PREVENTION

  • Make sure window and door screens are "bug tight." Check your screens periodically to make sure that there are no holes, and replace worn-out screens.
  • Get rid of mosquito-breeding containers. Eliminate cans, tires, buckets, unused plastic swimming pools, and other old containers such as flowerpots, urns, or pet dishes.
  • Keep your rain gutters clean. Rain gutters can get clogged with leaves and debris, which impede the flow of water which creates an ideal habitat for mosquito larvae.
  • If you have bromeliad plants, regularly rinse them out with a garden hose. Bromeliads are excellent hosts and each plant can produce more than a hundred mosquitoes a year.
  • Prevent you swimming pool from becoming a breeding ground. Make sure to keep the necessary chemicals in balance. This will prevent mosquitoes from breeding. If you are not maintaining your pool for swimming pleasure consider stocking it with mosquitofish which eat mosquito larvae
  • Take special precautions at dusk. Dusk is a mosquito's favorite time to fly and bite. Mosquitoes aren't strong fliers and a good breeze will keep them from landing. No breeze? A portable fan can be a substitute. Remember to also wear long sleeves and pants, and insect repellent containing DEET, if necessary.

SAVINGS TIP OF THE WEEK!

BUY TIRES ONLINE!

You might save a sizeable amount of money if you buy your tires online. Reader's Digest reports that a top-of-the-line Goodyear tire that cost $141.99 (+ $15.00 installation) at Sears could be purchased for as low as $95.00 online!  Even after adding shipping and installation cost (about $30 per tire), you still could save up to 17%. On four  new tires. this could save as much as $100 or more. Some of the online sites require store pick-up, but others deliver. Check out the 3 sites below:
