editor's note poka-dot

Team FLASH hopes that all of our FLASHERS enjoyed an explosive 4th of July! Our staff is enjoying a little time off this week spending some time with their families.  You are therefore receiving a shortened version of FLASH today.  I personally am visiting family in North Carolina. The weather is wonderful and the cool mountain air is so refreshing. There is no internet access at the house, resulting in limited use of local wireless connections. Thus, I apologize for a less than prompt response to those who have reached out to FLASH this week. Rest assured that I will be in touch with you soon. FLASH will be back in full mode next week! In the meantime, please enjoy the timely information in the following posts. If you ever want to send us information or a post, please always feel welcome to do so!  We thrive on hearing from our FLASHERS. It's so easy too.  Simply send an email to [email protected] or click here

CAYLEE'S LAW

   PETITION CREATED

CAYLEE'S LAW

Team FLASH suspects that many of our FLASHERS were upset by the 'Not Guilty' verdict that was handed down on Tuesday in the Casey Anthony case. As is so often the case, good people are inspired to act when bad things happen. This verdict has inspired a woman from Oklahoma to create a petition which the Wall Street Journal has referred to as the fastest-growing  campaign that has ever been hosted on the Change.org site. There is so much traffic that there have been some issues handling the heavy load. This petition calls for the creation of a new federal statute called "Caylee's Law" that would make it a felony for parents not to report the death of a child to law enforcement within an hour of discovering the incident, or within 24 hours in the case of child disappearance." If you would like to sign the petition, please go to the website or click here to find a full article in the WSJ law blog.

CALLING ALL BUSINESSES

family jamboree 2011

The planning for the  2nd Annual Family Jamboree is well underway.  The date has been set for October 8th at the Indian River Fairgrounds. This is a fantastic event that is brought to our community courtesy of Cross Life.  Last year there were over 10,000 in attendance; an incredibly attendance for any first year event.  There are both sponsorship and booth participation available to all businesses. Booths provide an opportunity to disseminate information about your business. There is no set booth cost, you are merely asked to make a contribution. FLASH participated last year and was thrilled with the exposure received. We will definitely be participating again this year. The Family Jamboree has something for everyone. Great entertainment, food, games, crafters, yard sale, youth and adult karaoke contest, senior dance contest and more. Please feel free to get in contact with Linda for more information (772) 563-0430. You can also find information and registration forms on their website .

ADORABLE PUPPIES FOR SALE

   PUPPY1 PUPPY 2 PUPPY 3

These adorable little pups are called Highland Maltese, and are a cross breed. The mom MAGGIE is a Maltese and the dad MURPHY is a Westie.  There are 4 boys and 1 girl and they are 6 weeks old today! They will be ready for a new home when they are 8 weeks old. They will be up-to-date on all of their shots at that time. If you are unfamiliar with this breed you can research it online. You will find that many go for $800. I am mostly concerned with finding a loving home and am only asking $400. You can contact me, Toni Adams, by email  [email protected] or call 772-538-2646 to arrange for a convenient time to come see these adorable puppies.

INDIAN RIVER COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANT TO CASTLE

CASTLE

Doug Borrie, CASTLE Assistant Director; Kerry Bartlett, Exec. Dir. of The Indian River Community Foundation; Theresa Garbarino-May, CASTLE Exec. Dir.; and Becky Allen,

Indian River Community Foundation Board Chair.

The Indian River Community Foundation recently awarded $15,000 to support CASTLE in replicating an evidenced-based parenting and family strengthening program in Indian River County. CASTLE is already offering the program in St. Lucie County at no cost to families. This grant will bring the program to Indian River County over the course of two, seven week sessions. The program offers three main interventions: parenting skills training, social skills training for children and family skills training. Each meeting is two and half hours, targeting families with children between the ages of 10 and 14. The program incorporates a family dinner to make the sessions convenient and give families an opportunity to practice skills they learn during the sessions.

Doug Borrie, Assistant Director of CASTLE, said the organization will begin recruiting families for the program in August, with the first session launching September 15. CASTLE is collaborating with leadership from Youth Guidance to identify potential families
