WHAT A TERRIFIC WEBSITE!
Our researcher happened on this site by accident when she wanted to be sure of the correct pronunciation of "poet laureate" ('et 'or 'ut'?). so she 'googled' it. (I wonder when the dictionary will recognize 'google' as a verb?) This site allows you to type in a word and then it speaks it for you. It might be a good site for your kids to know about if they have to give a speech in school. (By the way, it is pronounced law - re - et.) CLICK HERE |

CANCER FACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW
(Part - 1)
1. Every person has cancer cells in their body. These caner cells do not
show up in standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion.
2. Cancer cells occur in the body from 6 to more than 10 times in a
person's lifetime.
3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be
destroyed and prevented from multiplying.
4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has nutritional
deficiencies. These could be due to genetics, but also to environmental,
food and lifestyle factors.
5. Overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, by changing diet to eat
more adequately and healthy, 4-5 times/day and by including
supplements, to strengthen the immune system.
6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning cancer cells which also destroys
healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract etc, and can
cause organ damage like liver, kidney, heart, lungs, etc.
7. Radiation, while destroying cancer cells, also burns, scars and damages
healthy tissues and organs.
8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce
tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do
not result in more tumor destruction.
9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and
radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence
the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.
10. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells, by not
feeding them the foods they need to multiply.

FASHION TIP OF THE WEEK

Bikini cover-ups come in many colors and prints, but everyone knows that wearing white keeps you cooler. White is always refreshing and summery. The colour white connotes purity, innocence, and liberty. Model Ashley O'Connell is shown here wearing a Debbie Katz South Beach cover-up that can also be worn as a tunic with a bright colored tank underneath. A turquoise or coral camisole would give a pop of color with a great pair of white skinnies or capris. Stop by Penelope's at 3121 Ocean Drive to see this and many more styles for Spring! |

..
HFCS AFFECTS BLOOD PRESSURE
HFCS (High-Fructose Corn Syrup) is in a lot of sweet candies, desserts, etc., but it also is in a lot of prepared low-fat foods like yogurt. According to Dr. Richard Johnson of the University of Florida, when they take out the fat, they have to add something to pump up the flavor," and the inexpensive HFCS is their first choice. However research from the University of Colorado shows that consuming too much of it can raise your blood pressure as much as 32%. The good news is that cutting back on the foods that contain it can send your blood pressure tumbling down.
NOTE: White and brown sugar have less of an impact on blood pressure than HFCS.

BOTHERED BY SNAILS?
A friend was having a problem with snails feasting on her potted orchids. (Talk about a 'garden salad'!) She learned about this tip and passed it on to us. It seems that the little fellows don't like copper and will not cross it, and they even make a self adhesive tape to deter them. Presumably, you wrap the tape around the rim of the pot.The tape is available online and at certain stores. For details, CLICK HERE. |

SAVINGS TIP OF THE WEEK! UNUSUAL SCHOLARSHIPS! This is a great spot for high school students to do a scholarship search. Who knew you could possibly get a scholarship for being left- handed? Or how about one for the best "duck call"? Our favorite though, would have to be the one for using Duct Tape for prom outfits! You can read more about that in the next post. For unusual scholarships, CLICK HERE. |
|

HURRY TO ENTER!
We mentioned this in the post above and it's not too late to enter the "Stuck at the Prom" contest, but all entries must be in by June 13th! If you miss this deadline, with a top prize of a $5,000 scholarship, if you'll still be in high school next year, you might start planning now for the 2012 contest. To enter, you must create 2 prom outfits for a couple and or accessories using duct tape. To read the complete rules and to view some of the outfits...Click Here. |

A REVERSED CINDERELLA STORY!
No one knows for sure where Prince William and Kate have been since the wedding, but on Monday they will be returning to their rented farmhouse in Anglesy, Wales. William will be resuming his duties as a search and rescue pilot with the RAF and Kate will assume the role of army wife, presumably doing her own household chores! Kate's role model for this is none other than Queen Elizabeth II, who followed Prince Philip to Malta for his two-year stint with the navy, and has said it was one of the happiest times of her life. |

HEALTH TIP

SIP SMART !
This tip comes from WebMD. Use a tall, skinny glass instead of a short, wide tumbler to cut liquid calories - and your weight - without dieting. You'll drink 25-30% less juice, soda, wine, or any other beverage. How can this work? Brian Wansink, PhD, says visual cues can trick us into consuming more or less. His tests at Cornell University found all kinds of people poured more into a short, wide glass - even experienced bartenders. |
