STATIC IN YOUR CLOTHES? Dryer Sheets are the Answer to This and Many Other Problems
These cooler days with lower humidity can cause static cling in your clothes. Did you know you can pat yourself and/or your clothes with a fabric softener sheet to get rid of the static? Here are some other uses for these handy dryer sheets:
Dusting: They can dust off furniture, blinds, car interiors, and even work for saw dust. Keep bugs away: Tuck some around lawn furniture to repel bees and mosquitoes. You can also rub a sheet directly on your bare skin to discourage bites. Keep your clothes fresh: tuck a few fabric-sheets in your drawers and closets. Smooth your hair: Wipe one over your hair to remove frizzies. Scrub your showers: Lightly wet a used dryer sheet, and scrub to remove soap build-up. Deodorize your pets: Wipe dogs or cats (especially wet ones) with a dryer sheet. You can also place one in your litter box. Scrub the bugs from your car: Wet your car and use a dryer sheet to scrub away bugs. Wipe up hair: The cling of a dryer sheet is perfect to wipe off pet or human hair. In your shoes: Toss a dryer sheet in the toes of your shoes to minimize odors. While traveling: Place a few dryer sheets in between items in your suitcase. For diapers: Keep your used dryer sheets in your diaper bag. In the kitchen: Soak cookware with burnt or baked-on food in warm water with one. Clean paint brushes: Soak brushes with latex paint in warm water with one. In books: Placing a dryer sheet in books or photo albums will keep them smelling fresh. In your car: Stash them under your seats and trunk for fresh scents as you travel. In storage: Tuck them in seldom used items such as luggage, camping gear, sports equipment.

GOOD NEWS FOR WRINKLES!
Wayne State University in Michigan did a study of 230 photo s taken of people in the 1950s. After studying their smiles, it was determined that the broader a grin and the deeper the wrinkles (crows feet) around the eyes, the longer a person might live. Those who showed a genuine smile that involved the eyes, cheek and mouth lived an average of 7 years longer than the others! Eunice Sanbon (pictured here) of Jacksonville, Texas was recently named the oldest living person in the world at 115, so the research must be true. That's quite a smile! |
HEALTH TIP

WHAT DOES "NATURAL" MEAN?
The FDA does not regulate the word "natural". Consequently, if you see a product labeled "natural," that doesn't necessarily mean that it is good for you. For example, High Fructose Corn Syrup is a natural product found in many packaged foods, including low and non-fat foods like yogurt. When the fat is removed, the corn syrup is added to improve the flavor. However, in a study at the University of Colorado, consuming too much HFCS showed an increase in blood pressure of over 30%! So, if you're concerned about your blood pressure, you're better off eating the full fat yogurt. Read the ingredients on other low fat foods as well.

ALWAYS BE ALERT - SO THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN TO YOU!
Usually we give you a fun video to watch, but we think this is so important, we wanted everyone to see it. By just tying a few cans on her automobile, the criminal got her car, purse and house keys without touching her and she would not even be able to give a description of the person. We have to wonder just how many people, would do exactly the same thing as this young lady. As you will see, it's best to always turn off the car and take the keys with you, even if it's just for a minute. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3NJjZBSS8U |

. TALKING WITH A SENIOR
Sometimes it can be frustrating to talk with elderly people if they have Alzheimers or Dementia because they may be inclined to repeat themselves frequently. It may be something as simple as repeatedly asking what time it is. This is because their memory may not hold a current thought. However, you will find they may have incredible recall of long ago events. So, the solution is to let them do the talking. Ask them questions about their past..."Where did you grow up?" or "Where did you meet your spouse?" You may be surprised at how easy it is for them to speak about such subjects. You might also be surprised at what you learn!
If you are a caregiver for a senior, it is important that you to take an occasional break. Remember that our team here at Champion is ready to help whether it is for a day, a week, a month or more. Just give us a call and tell us what you need. (772) 257-0442. We also invite you to visit our website .

FLASH FASHION TIP OF THE WEEK
With gorgeous styling that draws in vintage florals with a colour palette of rich browns to tropical orchid this Kensie Girl dress dons the look of "relaxed luxury". Come into Penelope's to see this and many more of this season's styles arriving daily. |
SIGN UP FOR A FLEXIBLE SAVINGS ACCOUNT AT WORK!
Almost everyone incurs costs for medicine, prescriptions and health insurance copayments. Perhaps you also have dependent (child) care expenses while you're working, or you have to pay commuting costs to get to work. If your employer offers a flexible spending account as part of your benefits, consider signing up. A flexible spending account, or FSA, allows you to pay for medical, dependent care or transportation costs with pretax dollars set aside with every paycheck. By paying with pretax dollars instead of after-tax dollars, you're essentially getting a discount on all these expenses you regularly incur. How big a discount? It depends on your marginal tax bracket, but those in the 15 percent bracket are saving 15 percent by paying with pretax money instead of money that has already been taxed. Contact your employee benefits department to get specific information.
NOTE: The contributions you make to a Flexible Spending Account are deducted from your pay BEFORE your Federal, State, or Social Security Taxes are calculated and are never reported to the IRS. The end result is that you decrease your taxable income and increase your spendable income. You can save hundreds or even thousands of dollars a year.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK
SUPER EASY CHICKEN AND DUMPLINGS
THE ULTIMATE COMFORT FOOD!
If you were in the kitchen a lot over the holidays, this quick recipe is super easy and one your family will love!
INGREDIENTS
6 boneless chicken thighs
1 (10.75 ounce) cans condensed cream of mushroom soup
salt and pepper to taste
1 (12 ounce) package refrigerated biscuits
DIRECTIONS
In a large pot over high heat, combine the chicken with enough water to cover, and boil for 15 to 20 minutes. Drain some of the water from the pot, reserving about 2 cups in the pot. Remove chicken and set aside.
Reduce heat to medium, and add the can of condensed soup. Season with salt and pepper if needed. Drop biscuits into soup mixture and cover. Simmer over medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the dough is cooked through. It is important to keep covered and not to peak for the full 8 to 10 minutes! Once cooked return the chicken to pot and serve.
OPTIONS: Use cream of chicken or celery soup if you prefer and add frozen vegetables as pictured. If you like thinner dumplings, peel biscuits into halves or pull apart in small chunks. You may want to remove the bone from the chicken before serving. Thicken with 1 or 2 Tbsp of cornstarch mixed with a little cold water for a thicker sauce. |
