MARGARET (Peggy) GIBBS
.

.
IS A POSITIVE PERSON
.
Margaret A. Gibbs AWARDED THE CERTIFIED FUND RAISING EXECUTIVE (CFRE) DESIGNATION
Vero Beach can consider itself quite lucky six years ago when Peggy Gibbs decided to call it home! Originally from Connecticut, Peggy moved south where she continued her work raising money for non profits; something she has committed her professional career to. She raised money for the Visiting Nurses Association of South Central Connecticut and held positions with other local non profits before settling in with Indian River Habitat three years ago. She currently serves as IRHDH's Development Manager for Indian River Habitat for Humanity and oversees all development initiatives including major giving, planned giving, donor stewardship and the annual appeal at Habitat. Peggy 'knows her stuff' and was recently named as a Certified Fund Raising Executive. (CFRE) She joins an exclusive group of only 5,200 other professionals from around the world who have been honored with this recognition. These designations are not awarded lightly and are only granted for a three year period. Recipients must continue to demonstrate on-going fund raising employment, results, and continue with professional education in order to maintain the designation. Congratulations Peggy! We salute you this week and your devotion to the non profit sector. We are glad you came south!

NEEDED: BLANK HOLIDAY CARDS! Why? - Mail For Heroes
The youth of Red Cross' North Treasure Coast Chapter from both counties will be hosting a card signing event for Holiday Mail for Heroes. This will be held November 6th at the Navy Seal Museum in Ft. Pierce from 11Am to 4PM during their 50th anniversary ceremony. We have county council members attending and supporting our youth council. Why are we telling you all this? We still need many blank cards donated by you to help make this happen. Do you still have all those leftover holiday cards from past years? Are you one of the many people that have the great intention of "I WILL sent holiday cards this year!" and then never quite have the time too open that box of cards you purchased? These cards will have a great home here for this event. Please drop yours by the Red Cross office in either Ft. Pierce or Vero before November 4th so we know what we have and we thank you bunches for your help!

HALLOWEEN COSTUMES? NO!
. This isn't a picture from a movie and we have no reason for printing this photo except that we think it's funny! These are British judges following the ceremony that took place recently at Westminster Abbey to officially begin the legal year in London. They then walked to the House of Parliament. Their clothes and wigs are still standard attire for certain occasions. It's hard to imagine this type of dress on their American counterparts, isn't it?! ..... Only on Saturday Night Live would we ever see something like this!

TRAVEL NEWS
A news report on NBC 6 in Miami claims that according to a recent survey, the Number One place to get away from it all is the Florida Keys. Second is Juno, Alaska and the third choice was Nantucket, Massachusetts. All of them sound pretty good to us, but we think it's pretty nice right here in Vero Beach!

Surprise your family with Jack O'Lantern Pancakes for a fun Halloween breakfast! Make pancakes from your favorite recipe or mix, then let your kids create Jack O'Lantern faces on them. You can use chocolate chips, raisins, fruits and nuts. Try blueberry 'eyes' on a round slice of banana, a strawberry slice 'nose' and chopped pecans, chocolate chips or raisins for a 'toothy' smile. Have a can of 'squirty' whipped cream handy to hold everything together.

THE WORLD SERIES TV SCHEDULE
BUT 1ST...A BIT OF HISTOR Y
It's hard to believe that this is the 106th World Series! The first Series game was played in 1903 between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Boston Americans. In an effort to end a bitter two year rivalry and promote unity in ba seball, the veteran National League and newly established American League decided to bury the hatchet and come together for a new kind of season finale. The owners of the two pennant winning teams agreed that their ball clubs should meet in a best-of-nine playoff se ries for the "World Championship." Boston won 5 to 3.
The following year in 1904, it was canceled due to a boycott by the owner of the (then) New York Giants. The only other time that it was not played was in 1994 because of an ongoing strike by the Major League Baseball Players Association.
HERE'S THE BROADCAST SCHEDULE FOR THIS YEAR.

HEALTH TIP
Health Benefits of Pumpkin You're Gonna' Love!
Eating about 1/2 cup of Pumpkin daily can provide all kinds of health benefits. This is about the amount in one slice of pumpkin bread or pumpkin pie! (We said you'd love it!) Here's why it's so good for you!
Pumpkin is low in fat and calories and rich in many disease-fighting nutrients such as:
- Alpha-carotene
- Beta-carotene
- Fiber
- Vitamins C and E
- Potassium
- Magnesium
- Pantothenic acid
The alpha-carotene and beta-carotene are potent antioxidants found in pumpkin and are pro-vitamin A carotenoids, meaning the body converts them to Vitamin A. Vitamin A promotes healthy vision and ensures proper immune function. The beta-carotene in pumpkin may also reverse skin damage caused by the sun and act as an anti-inflammatory. Alpha-carotene is thought to slow the aging process. Also, according to a study from Harvard Medical School, it can reduce the risk of developing cataracts and even macular degeneration, and prevent tumor growth. Carotenoids also boost immunity and lessen the risk of heart disease.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

JACK O'LANTERN CHEESEBURGER PIE
INGREDIENTS
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, pressed
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup ketchup
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 (15-ounce) package refrigerated piecrusts
2 cups (12 ounces) shredded Monterey Jack cheese, divided
2 tablespoons water
1 large egg
PREPARATION: Cook first 5 ingredients in a large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring until beef crumbles and is no longer pink; drain. Stir in ketchup and Worcestershire sauce; cool.
Unfold 1 piecrust, and place on a lightly greased baking sheet.
Stir together meat mixture and 2 cups cheese; spoon onto center of crust, leaving a 2-inch border.
Unfold remaining piecrust, and cut out a jack-o'-lantern face, reserving pastry cutouts to use as a stem. Place crust over meat mixture; crimp edges of crust, and fold under. Place stem on top of jack-o'- lantern face.
Whisk together 2 tablespoons water and egg and brush over crust.
Bake at 425° for 20 minutes; remove from oven, and brush again with egg mixture. Bake 5 to 10 more minutes or until golden brown. (You can fill eyes, nose and mouth with cheese if desires...we like it better without)
