Greetings!
At The Tasting Room
Thank you to everyone who visited us at Taste Washington and during Passport to Woodinville. Both events were terrific fun. We hope you
enjoyed yourselves and discovered some new and exciting wines. Congratulations
to our raffle winners Valerie Tam, Diane Morse, Monica Larsen, Nicole Brown,
Marc Deutscl and Brittney Wippel.
We released our latest wine club
shipments in early May: the 2007 Tuttorosso and the 2007 Byzance. Brian is
excited about these wines from what he says is one of his favorite vintages. If you have not
picked up your wines, we hope to see you soon.
In The Winery
April was a very busy month in the winery.
We spent a full week bottling over 4,800 cases. This first bottling of the year
included, our new Abracadabra Rosé, which we are just releasing. Only 220 cases were made, so it won't last long. We also bottled the 2009 Oriana, the
2008 Tuttorosso and the 2008 Abracadabra Red. Last, but not least, we bottled
the very promising 2007 Solesce. Although it won't be released for two more
years, Brian says it will be well worth the wait. Thank you so much to
all our bottling volunteers, we couldn't have done it without you. In May we were busy topping,
analyzing some of this year's pre-blends, and doing some much needed plumbing
projects. This month we will start
our blending trials and get ready for our second bottling session in July. If you are interested in volunteering
in July you can email Robert at: Robert@briancartercellars.com Market Research Our trip to France and Italy was a
grueling expedition of very strenuous wine tastings in some of the best wine
regions in the world. We endured morning croissants and espresso, stops for local
olive oil and cheese samplings, local markets and shopping. As if that was not punishment enough,
the journey required us to view historic villages, scenic countryside, and to stay
in lovely villas and charming hotels. To many the most daunting task each day and evening were the dining
experiences. What to have? What to have? It was all done for market research of
course. We felt honor-bound to
endure this torture so that we could take these experiences and use them to
improve our wines and tasting room atmosphere. In other words, we did it for all of you. Yeah, right!

Super Summer Specials
|
| Enological Consumption Stimulus PlanAll right, we all know this economic recovery stuff is
complicated, slow and painful. When facing such a daunting challenge, the best
thing to do is to sit back, reflect, and drink a good glass of wine. To soften
the economic blow of this advice, we are lowering the price on
several of our core wines. Effective immediately and until further notice, we at Brian
Carter Cellars are implementing the Enological Consumption Stimulus Plan
(ECSP). Our new prices are as follows: ORIANA was $24, now $20, $17 for wine club. LE COURSIER was $30, now $25, $21.25 for wine club. SOLESCE was $58, now $50, $42.50 for wine club. ABRACADABRA RED was $20, now $15 for everyone (no further wine club discounts).

| Featured Vineyard - Stone
Tree VineyardI
first met Tedd
Wildman some 24 years ago and he quickly became a great friend. At the
time we
were both without children and were footloose enough to spend time
climbing
together in the Cascades. Now it is family and work that come first, he
with
three children, me with two; he with a vineyard to manage, and me with a
winery. Our first professional arrangement was
when I hired him as a viticultural consultant at Outlook vineyard where
he
advised Apex and me on managing the vineyard with particular emphasis on
pest
management which was his expertise. Tedd left his
consulting career when he entered into a partnership with Mark Wheeler
to plant
and grow wine grapes in what he called "The last great piece of vineyard
property in Washington". While
that statement may have some poetic license, the site has no doubt
proved
itself to be great and the wines made from Tedd's vineyard don't lack in
poetic
expression either. The Stone Tree
Vineyard was planted in 2001 and I have been fortunate enough to have
been
walking the vines and buying the grapes since 2003. The Stone Tree
Vineyard was named for the petrified wood found on the site and has a
prominent
position high (between 950 and 1200 feet) on the Wahluke Slope. The
Wahluke Slope is home to several
thousand acres of wine grapes and was awarded its own AVA status in
2006. The
area, also sometimes referred to as Mattawa for the small town located
on the
western edge, has sandy loam soils with basalt rock prominent on the
upper
slopes. The appellation is noteworthy
for its consistent and gentle south facing slope running from the Saddle
Mountains to the Columbia River and is known for warm dry weather,
resulting in red
wines with loads of fruit and soft ripe tannins. The Stone Tree
Vineyard contributes the largest percentage of any vineyard to the wines
of
Brian Carter Cellars; it also contributes more different varietals than
any
other vineyard. These varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit
Verdot,
Malbec, Tempranillo, Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. All these grapes
have over the vintages contributed to every
Brian Carter blend except of course our white blend, Oriana. Of
particular note
is that Stone Tree was the sole source of Tempranillo for the Corrida
blend for
the first two vintages and continues to be by far the major source of
this wonderful
grape. While the winery has no plans to purchase additional varieties,
Stone Tree does grow several others including Petite Syrah, Zinfandel,
Primitivo and Barbara. Thanks to Tedd's meticulous care and the great
terroir
at Stone Tree the vineyard supplies many of the most prominent wineries
in
Washington State. Cheers Tedd!! To
many more vintages together and let's try to get out in the Cascades
again
sometime soon.

| Purple By Emma Casson | Emma Casson- Artist Statement
I was born in Oxford, England and moved to America in 2005 with my
husband and two young children.Ever since I was a child I have
enjoyed capturing life through the lens, and in recent times this has
been the world of nature and botanicals. The colors, detail and
form to be found in nature, continues to inspire me and every image is
created with the aim of producing a piece of art to be enjoyed every
day, beyond the life of the flower. Photography can be so much more than
a "still life" and this is something which I hope shows in my work. The
"macro" lens has brought the details of nature truly into focus and
together with constantly striving to find the right composition,
lighting and angle I aim to produce striking images from often 'simple'
forms. My images are a combination of wild flowers and studio shots of
selected stems. Color, form and structure are vital to me. I love the
creativity that digital photography affords and some of my prints utilize this more than others by accenting the colors and highlights
found in nature. www.emmacasson.imagekind.com |
