Four-Star Thoughts from Colin Powell on Parking |

Can you guess who offered the following motivation for managers to share with parking professionals?
"This building doesn't get started until we get our job done. We're important-- we're as important as anyone in this building. We need to get our job done efficiently, without damaging cars. We need to master getting cars into tight spaces, smile at everyone, say good morning, and let people know that we're here to help and we want to get you in as fast as we can."
Believe it or not, former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell shared that advice with The Parking Professional in an exclusive interview about management, living with purpose, and what parking has to teach executives in all industries. Appearing on the cover of the August issue, Powell talks about everything from the First Observer program to instilling pride in front-line employees to the importance of parking in the way the world does business. It's an interview you'll want to share with your whole staff, and it's only in the August issue of The Parking Professional. Watch your mailbox or read it online right now! |
Durbin Amendment Webinar Q&A Now Available |
On July 25, Michael Mintz, advisory consultant, AMG Payment Solutions, presented IPI's webinar, "A Deeper Dive into What the Durbin Amendment Means for Parking" and educated participants on which IPI members will benefit from the Durbin Amendment changes and who will not, along with what it will do to monthly credit card processing costs. Below is an excerpt from the question and answer transcript:
Q: Has there been any noticeable impact to micro transactions (<$5) due to Durbin?
A: Yes, the change to debit card interchange rates has negatively impacted micro transactions. Both Visa and MasterCard have eliminated the small ticket debit interchange category for regulated debit transactions. A $5 debit card transaction pre-Durbin carried an interchange cost of 12 cents. That same transaction post-Durbin carries an interchange cost of 21 cents for a regulated debit card transaction. These interchange costs exclude dues and assessments and network fees.
