IPI's ADA Webinar is Tomorrow! |
Parking ADA Self Audit
Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. EDT
Thinking of restriping your lot/structure? It's about to get more complicated. New ADA guidelines took effect March 15, 2012 that removed safe harbor clauses of the original 1991 law. That means lots that are striped after March 15 must meet the latest requirements for van accessible space ratios, and "readily achievable" architectural barriers between parking areas and business must be removed. Are you ready for these changes? Join us on this webinar to learn the most common parking ADA mistakes, what items must be fixed to comply with the new guidelines, and how to use a checklist to easily audit your facility and create a realistic plan.
Instructor: Michelle Wendler, AIA, principal, Watry Design, Inc.

News You Can Use For Your Local Newspapers |
As part of the Parking Matters® program, IPI distributed this catchy consumer-oriented feature last week: Tips for Drivers: 8 Ways to Avoid Getting a Parking Ticket and it's already gotten some good pickup in major newspapers and social media, including the popular Consumer_Wire which tweeted it to 57,000+ followers. Aside from providing ways to avoid tickets, this release was written to educate drivers (and the media) that tickets are not all about revenue, but about turnover, successful downtowns, safety, and being able to get where you need to go. These are all very important messages that help advance the parking profession and tell our story. This is the kind of release that IPI's Allied State and Regional Associations have permission to adapt and send to local media. For advice on that, contact Helen Sullivan, IPI's communication counsel.
